*Kick Plate Bio:
Hailing from NYC, Kickplate is the beat-constructing alter ego of
internationally known operatic baritone David Adam Moore. A 6th generation
professional musician, he got his musical start as a child, playing Country
Western, Cajun, and Blues at family get-togethers in the deep woods of
Southeast Texas. As the work of major label electronic groups like Depeche
Mode and Kraftwerk filtered through the mainstream and into America's
hinterlands, David spent his teenage years painting roofs and flipping pizza
to buy equipment for a small electronic studio. After forming a few bands
and a string of live performances, the electronic rig went into storage as
he went off to conservatory to study Classical music. Having slaved through
3 music degrees and the establishment of an opera career, David has
re-entered the world of electronic music as a dj and producer of minimal
house, electro, and ambient glitch. He leads a dual artistic life, switching
between the glaring lights of the opera stage and the faint glow of a laptop
screen.
**Bruno Pronsato bio
Meet Seattle's answer to Akufen and Pantytec. Whether or not those names
make any sense to you, you need to check out Read_Me by Bruno Pronsato (you
may also know him as microsound mangler Bobby Karate). The title cut is
peak-time techno that gets hectic with the rhythmic switchbacks,
crisscrossing leopard purrs for texture, and caffeinated glitches, all of
which Bruno wreathes with ghostly halos of female vocal phonemes. His recent
12" (Orac Records) entitled "Silver City" brandishes tough-as-calculus
experimental techno with viral glitches and more vocal ectoplasm to put you
in that coveted psilocybin mind state. As a bonus, L.A. producer Eight
Frozen Modules abstracts "Silver City" into an Aphex Twin-esque cubist
nightmare (ca. Windowlicker), stretching and granulating most of Bruno's 0s
and 1s into digital Silly Putty. I haven't been this disoriented since I
tried to navigate Bumbershoot. (By the way, labels such as Canada's
Cynosure, France's Circus Company, and Oakland's Tigerbeat6 have shown an
interest in Bruno/Bobby's music; 2004 could be his breakthrough year.)
***Nordic Soul Bio
An appropriate moniker for music that is bent on fusing the soulful sounds
of Detroit Techno with the chilly, electronic textures of Northern Europe.
Nordic Soul appeals to both mind and body by combining lush melodies with
the hard-hitting, funktified percussion of mid-western house and techno. In
2003 Nordic Soul has opened for: Funkstroung, Richard Devine, Phonecia, Four
Tet, Ghostly International Tour and T. Raumschmiere, Luomo, Sutekh (to name
a few) as well as getting runner up in Seattle?s infamous laptop battle.
