Saw Greg Davis live last night in Ann Arbor. He's touring as a band with two friends. All I can say is if he's coming to your town, you should go see him. The show was really really awesome. Sound was great, and the three of them played really well together. Greg said they've only been playing together for a little while, and this was their first real show as a band, but they were really tight. Greg did guitars, harmonium, laptop and other various noisemakers, Steve was drums and noisemakers, and Ben was guitar, bass, organ, melodica, xylophone, and noisemakers. They mostly did stuff from Curling Pond Woods, and I thought the vocals sounded really strong, better than what's on the CD, in fact. More info on the Autumn Records site: http://www.autumnrecords.net/ Looks like some great lineups for some of the other dates. Hrvatski, Marumari, Montag... I'll be catching them again next week here in Pittsburgh with Colongib. Lemme know if you're gonna be there! I caught the Toronto show last night (along with barely 20 other people, sadly), and it was as great as Alan says. It was a generally low-key performance with an amazing variety of sounds and styles, ranging from acoustic numbers to atmospheric electronic bits to percussive improv segments. They even covered The Beach Boys and the Incredible String Band. Not especially IDM, I suppose, but damn good. Marumari and I Am Robot & Proud both put in great sets as well. Marumari is playing most of the dates on the tour, and their new stuff is sounding good. They hope to have a new album out this summer.
