Now that we're well into '04 I think I can safely say that Merck was my favorite label of '03. They had some outstanding releases, and even the ones I didn't think were immediately all that great have really grown quickly on me. The Blamstrain, Proswell & Secede albums were all immediate loves, and Adam Johnson & Tiki Obmar were pleasant surprises. Merck is showing a lot of variety and growth, and I'm lovin' it. They even managed three excellent compilations in '03! Check it: Adam Johnson - Chigliak Blamstrain - Ensi Esem - Serial Human Lackluster - Showcase Proswell - Carrot Dossier Secede - Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic Tiki Obmar - High School Confidential V/A - Dosage V/A - Double Down V/A - Miasmah And now they got a new Proem coming up, more Syndrone (aka Machine Drum) on the way, and more new artists - I can't wait! Sorry for the gushing but I'm just having an "awe of Merck" week. You know how every once in a while you just can't get enough of something? -Apiontek -- :::::::::::::::::::::: !Dean for America '04! www.deanforamerica.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well into '04... heh. I can't agree with you entirely, because there was a bunch of Merck stuff that I didn't hear from '03, but I will say that Serial Human is definitely one of my favorite albums of last year. Especially when compared with their first full length, Enveloped, which never grabbed me all that much. I think I'm gonna have to hit up the Merck mail order sometime soon... I definitely dug all that I heard from Merck, just didn't hear enough to say that they were label of the year. My pick for that was Rephlex, just for the sheer variety of stuff that they put out. Loved the Amen Andrews, the Stakker/Humanoid reissues, the Victor Gama, etc... Can't wait to hear that new Proem! Later, Alan np:Esem:Serial Human Quoting Adam Piontek <adam@damek.org>:

Seconded. The label has come a really long way over the last several years. Not to suggest they weren't great back then... I still pull out Squadron pretty often. Especially great are the two Merck mixes (spring & summer I think). They are very Machine Drum/Lackluster/Adam Johnson heavy, which is a good thing. Also, I think Machine Drum's Icey Rail (in any of its many incarnations) is one of my favorite IDM tracks ever. -Aaron ----- Original Message ----- From: Adam Piontek <adam@damek.org> Date: Tuesday, January 13, 2004 6:53 am Subject: [idm] merck - fav label of '03
