well no... not me personally, but some motherfucker is using my email address to spam other people and consequently, i am getting tons of "returned mail: undeliverable" type messages for things i never sent. this in addition to all the spam i was already getting is hard to endure. i was planning on putting this email address to rest pretty soon, but its not really convenient at this juncture in time. anyone have any suggestions? -Aaron --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

ok, here what i do and it seems that i am doing better then many others- in these times)) you got to have several email adresses 1.the one that you use strictly for personal matters and never publish, make sure the server has a good anti-spam soft there, i am very happy with rcn.com they maintain an agressive list of SPAM IP-s. 2.adress that you use for mailinglists like this, my experience with yahoo is excelent. less then 1% of spam 3.a spare adress for pesonal, businees matters, so if the first one becomes polluted you switch here good luck __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Your email address most likely ended up in an address list that was spoofed for a virus or spam. I received quite a few as well as complaints from people I knew when my address got spoofed with the Sobig virus. Unfortunately, as it's virus based and automated, there's not a whole lot you can do. Sometimes it goes away, but lots of times the sudden increase in your email address's visibility makes it easy for email harvesters to find, hence increasing spam anyway. Even more unfortunate is that the best way to avoid it is to use email less. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

It's happening to almost everyone on the goddamn Internet thanks to the goddamn SoBig virus. I have a whole bunch of different email addresses for various purposes, and all of them are getting these "returned mail" messages for mail I never actually sent. My one suggestion is that you'll sadly have to deal with it just like the rest of us. My other suggestion is that you should use the filtering functions of your mail program to put as much of those messages as possible into a junk folder. If your mail program doesn't have filtering available, upgrade to one that does, like Eudora (www.eudora.com). Good luck! Even, apparently to ebay. It was rather comical seeing one of their usual auction reply notifications used as a sobig transport. I had at least 10 of them with "re:thank you" in the subject line in my inbox when I got home tonight. A few months back, some damn spammer used my domain name as part of the 'from' address for his spam; they also used an email address database with a huge number of old addresses in. Result? I got (approx) 70,000 'returned mail, user unknown' messages. Good thing that my ISP is friendly - I emailed them, and they purged my inbox for me. As for the sobig stuff, well I guess it'll die down soon - I've been getting the odd 'returned email' message, but nothing too unmanageable. If the returned-mail you are getting is from spammers faking the 'from' address, you may be able to tell them to stop since their details will be in the spam message somewhere... john.. -- Quoting Aaron D Meyers <adm226@nyu.edu>:

Welcome to the club. I've had my email address spoofed in many many many bulk emailings...not even virus related. Sucks. There was one time i counted very close to 15,000 "user unknown" replies from one of them. Not much you can do. brian idm-admin Aaron D Meyers wrote:
