Poeme Electronique (1958) Produced for the Philips Radio Corporation pavilion at the Brussels Exposition. Played through 450 speakers. It was 480 seconds long. Projected images such as photographs, paintings, montages, printed and written scripts accompanied the music , a true multi-media event. Varese rejected the term music concrete as a description of the work. it was a montage of both found sounds and synthetic creation. It was referred to as 'Organized Sound'. This is the 5th Symphony of electronic music. The defining work that caught the attention of the world and propelled future composers to take electronic music as a bona-fide form of music. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? a stereo version still exists but the original, 450 speaker version is sadly gone forever. they tore down the pavilion after the expo... it still sounds pretty fucking weird after all this time, which is quite an accomplishment if you ask me. definitely worth hearing if you haven't... j On Wed, 12 Feb 2003, IDM Warp Zone wrote:

I have a vinyl copy of Poeme Electronique that I got through my aunt- a librarian with access to musty schoolhouse storages. I lifted a bizarre flute interlude from the piece and it fit eerily into a track I worked on with a friend of mine. It fit without any tempo or pitch adjustment, which resulted in chills running up and down my spine. The track was never finished but I still listen to the components. My copy has a fold-out sleeve that explained its impact on electronic music and a few bars of the theme in musical notation. Counts --- "jacob z." <jsz@eds.org> wrote:
