ok, so this is more religious dance music then intelligent dance music (though i think it's pretty intelligent) but i was hoping someone here might be able to make some recommendations. i'm looking for stuff in the traditional qawwali style, not so much his more modernish stuff. i have one recording of his called "bulleshah", and when i bought it at the indian record shop in berkeley the old lady behind the counter said "are you sure this is the one you want? it's very traditional, very old fashioned." it was the one i wanted, and i'd like some more. anyone know this stuff? anyone know anyone other that NFAK i should investigate? j --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Nusrat was extremely prolific in the studio, and I've only heard a teensy bit of what he produced before an early death in '97, or so. I have "Night Song", and it is absolutely breathtaking. I think everyone should hear it, simply to know that music so beautiful exists. But then again, it is qawwali... In the same vein, but a different religious tradition, is Salif Keita, a Sufi Muslim from Mali. Look for "The Mansa of Mali... A Retrospective"... other recordings I've heard lack the studio talent which makes this cd blow me away. These came out before world music became "cool" and so they are fairly unadulterated by Western/Big Label influences. Lisa b "jacob z." wrote:
