I saw the word "digital" crop up a lot in this review, but actually Fergadis only used an old Yamaha synth (the FB01) and on old Kawai drum machine (the R-100), both made in the 80's, to make that music. I mean those are digital instruments, but it's not some DSP fest a la Devine/Autechre or anything. Makes me think of those reviews which talk about Panasonic's "digital debris" when their music is created with their custom built analog modules. http://www.i2.i-2000.com/~jeffrey/FB01.htm http://www.keyboardmuseum.org/ar/k/kawai/r100.html Just being a pain in the azz. (:/Run Recordings) The heavily anticipated and long awaited Meat Beat Manifesto album called RUOK? will be released in October on :/Run Recordings (a division of Lakeshore Records, California). Press-Release/Bio attached.. ::REVIEWS:: 2002-08-26 :: VSNARES :: 2370894 (Planet µ) “…For being assembled from tracks recorded over the span of several albums, 2370894 shows a remarkable level of cohesion and sounds as though it could have been recorded in a single block…” 2002-08-26 :: 7" Reviews for Awkward Silence 11 & 12 Reviews for LUSINE ICL/THE BUDDY SYSTEM :: Vacate/Missing You Much & BAURI/NOVEL 23 :: Teddymx/Moony Girl on Awkward Silence Recordings (UK). 2002-08-22 :: Humming Bird Feeder Version 0.2 (Lucky Kitchen) Tetsu Inoue, Stephen Vitiello & Andrew Deutsch :: "...Spacious and sometimes quite lengthy, each track is given time to unfold and develop. The result is a minimal experimental album that is well worth exploring further..." 2002-08-21 :: Metamatics :: Remixes (Delikatessen) "...With only a handful of releases to their name from Lusine ICL, Crunch and now Metamatics, Delikatessen are fast becoming a label to watch with Remixes being no exception..." 2002-07-22 :: Proem & Dryft :: Component Records Proem's latest No_Carrier 3" CD-EP and Dryft's The Mytotyc Exyt CD-EP both on Component Records are the latest two releases set to place Component on top in the field of abstract and abrasive electronic music. 2002-07-21 :: V/A :: Phil Ranelin Remixes (Hefty) "...Overall, the variety of mixers means no one's going to love every track. I really enjoy about half of them. So for the money, the vinyl is a better bet than the CD. Same tracks, and close to half the price..." 2002-07-21 :: Qua :: Forgetabout (Surgery) "...All in all Forgetabout is an excellent debut. Qua covers a lot of ground across 13 tracks, but also holds things together as a whole. Tunes can be focused on at a micro scale, as little contrasting sounds shift the mood repeatedly, or the album can be taken as a whole as a rather psychedelic journey..." ::PROFILES:: 2002-08-22 :: Robots on the rise! :: An interview with Jamie Liddell of Super_Collider "...Super_Collider is a fairly well known collaboration between longtime techno- head Cristian Vogel and enthusiast for all things funky Jamie Liddell. A few years back Loaded (the same boys as Skint, home to Fatboy Slim et al) released their debut, Head On, an unlikely fusion of tweaked techno from the both of them and Jamie’s vocal stylings, which showed the influence of funk legends such as George Clinton and Sly Stone..." :: TOP TEN :: 2002-07-22 :: Editor @ Igloo Mag :: Top 10 Selections It's taken a little while to develop such a Top 10, but here it is nonetheless.. In NO particular order/year... 2002-07-21 :: Boban Ristevski's Top 10 (New) Releases Boban Ristevski's Top 10 great new releases. 2002-09-30 :: Polmo Polpo :: The Science of Breath (Substractif/Alien8 Recordings) "...Polmo Polvo (Sandro Perri) has created a brilliant, yet densely thick conceptual work that fills the room with deep rhythm..." 2002-09-29 :: Languis :: Untied (Simballrec) "...This disc has a few faint vocals, billowing, almost unreadable, amid a mostly instrumental disc..." 2002-09-27 :: Squarepusher :: Do You Know Squarepusher? (Warp) "...This is by far the most colorful example from the catalogue of Squarepusher (Tom Jenkinson) thusfar, in terms of encrusting pop idioms with an otherwise offbeat, left-of-center IDM sensibility. In its fractured theme Do You Know Squarepusher a living/breathing rouse marries these electro-twidlers to lapsed "Hey, Hey We're The Monkees" fare..." 2002-09-27 :: Smyglyssna :: We Can Fix It (Vertical Form) "...Though there are certain moments where I am raring to groove a bit, the edge never tips squarely enough towards the more funkier side to stick with it..." 2002-09-17 :: Digitonal :: 23:Things Fall Apart (Toytronic) Two words accurately describe the (overall) feeling of this debut release for Digitonal on the UK-based Toytronic Record label.. Elegant Electronics. Imagine Aphex Twins "I Care Because You Do" tied to recent emotional electronic based artists such as Esem, Abfahrt Hinwil, and Sense and you have a pretty good idea of the path that this full-length takes you through. 2002-09-13 :: TJ Norris' Igloo Review Batch :: TJ Norris is a new member & contributor to Igloo Magazine and devoted several reviews for your reading pleasure from labels like Kranky, Werkzeug, Horch, Erstwhile, and others! Check out what's new in the world of abstract electronic music from around the world.. 2002-09-12 :: Benge :: Meme Tunes (Expanding Records) "...Seemingly using the sounds of a department store with a signature beat and minimal vinyl degradation Edwards cautiously arranges each piece like an individually wrapped chocolate..." 2002-09-08 :: Sybarite :: Nonument (4AD) "...They all have taken the logical step from purely sequenced and automated electronic music toward a much more organic process of using acoustic instrumentation and more traditional song writing methods. Xian himself is quite the multi-instrumentalist, dabbling in guitar, trumpet amongst other instruments..." 2002-09-02 :: Dabrye :: Instrmntl (Eastern Developments) "... The results (of Dabrye) are a bunch of warm, accessible grooves, but still with truckloads of interest to make for worthwhile headphone listening..." 2002-09-02 :: Hu Vibrational :: Boonghee Music 1 (Eastern Developments) "...Slowly shifting rhythms based on repeating grooves, soft drones, deep bass tones, building layers of sound..."
