has anyone seen "reach the rock"...i bought the soundtrack because it was done by john mcentire (tortoise) and was wondering if the movie was any good. also thought it was interesting that it was released on hefty records. i understand darren aronofsky (pi, a requiem for a dream) is making a new movie called "the fountain" that is supposed to be post-matrix sci-fi. should have an interesting soundtrack. Supposed to be released in 2004. does anyone have any more info on that.

On the page from the link that Dan provided, it mentioned that Batman would be put on hold and that The Fountain would be Aronofsky's next flick. How does this bode for a potential IDM soundtrack? At first glance one would think that Batman is much more IDM than a Fountain, but who knows. -c --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The movie is somewhat interesting. It was produced and scripted by John Hughes. His son John Hughes III was the music supervisor for it, he has released stuff before on Hefty, there were some tracks on that Immediate Action compilation. The music definitely makes the film more entertaining, it's kind of quirky and dramatic, but slow moving flick. -thor -- ......................... : highpointlowlife.com : : 8bitrecs.com : : tsktskrecords.com : :::::::::::::::::::::::::: --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

The current big Batman project at Warner is Batman Vs Superman, to be directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Seems though that this may be delayed by a year as Petersen has decided to direct 'Troy' first. While Warner still insist they're going ahead with Aronofsky's take on the franchise I don't see how they could do so with Batman Vs Superman in the pipeline, given that that would be such a massive project.

I doubt there would be an IDM soundtrack to a Batman film, I'm sure Warner would love to make an extra pile of cash from CD sales and as good as Autechre and such are, I doubt they'll appeal to your average Korn fan ;) The nearest you'll get is the Dust Brothers, again. Mainstream movies tend to have mainstream soundtracks so they can cash in with CDs and Destiny's Child, Madonna and Limp Bizkit videos for free promotion. -- Dan Brusca www.vfrecordings.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

He's one of the film soundtrack guys that are practically incorporated! Guys like Howard Shore, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman seem to score 90% of big movies.. All of these cats have produced an *amazing* body of work but variety is the spice of life right? Kudos to directors like Aronofsky and Jarmusch for reaching outside the incestuous usual suspects for film muzak. 3 Tangents.. I just peeped at the schematic site it appears that Phonecia is contributing a track to The Derrida movie set to be released this fall. Secondly, Anybody know if Abigail Mead (aka Vivian Kubrick) ever did any more film sound beyond the 'Full Metal Jacket' score, or released any full lengths? The track 'Time Suspended' from the showdown between Drill Instructor Hartman and private Pyle has been stuck in my head for years. Last but not least. If *anybody* has Phillip Glass's perfect and transparent score to 'The Secret Agent' and a CD burner please help me commit music piracy. It's been deleted from Atlantic & Nonesuch's catalogue and I've been searching for it for a few years after losing my copy. Email me all privy like if you've got it on CD and feel like playing tradesies... ~g -- Greg Smith http://www.laiad.com "Dynamic moves based off ignorance tend to be better than passive moves based on fear." - IM Jeremy Silman --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Don't forget John Williams, the Fatboy Slim of orchestral music. Tom P.S. John Barry, Ennio Morricone, and Lalo Schifrin are all dead, proving that there is no God. P.P.S. Danny Elfman is one of those unique people who are in the mainstream, but don't think for the mainstream.... He's got to be the biggest name in soundtracks aside from john williams though. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel" <daniel@aptrick.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 4:54 PM Subject: RE: [idm] idm in movies?- the fountain
