A downright fantastic show from start to finish. Not much to say--all three performers were great and I never ever felt anything near boredom. The best show I've seen in a long time. Thanks for the link. First off, I'm a friend of Keith's so I'm a bit biased) I think that Hrvatski's sound is sort of known. Have you heard the Hrvatski so called "remix" at the end of 606's "Down with the scene" or his awesome piece on the American Breakbeat comp? If so you know that Vat makes fucking incredibly cut up breakbeat stuff that bounces fast and heartily through much of the equipment he has. One might call it idm hardcore, but that's all there is. He makes the music that we should be listening to. By this I mean that vat is involved with a huge amount of music in a variety of styles and genres. His music is an amalgamation of all these styles, with songs having multiple sections, and moods, and styles and some songs have lots of 200 bpm beats, and some songs have none. Some songs have both. Some pieces rely heavily on traditional equipment (guits, accordions) with others on digital noise and dsp fuckaroos. Vat is an experimentalist whose music is fucking rock solid (IMHO). yeah he's pretty all over the map. there's the catstep remix as you said, to the acoustic guitar track on cosmic forces of mu, pink floyd cover "cirrus minor" and guitar based corcoran on one of his older albums. additionally I think he contributed to this new nanoloop compilation on disko bruit? from the interviews I've read it sounds like he has a very "academic" approach to writing songs, but the finished products are anything but [a good thing IMO]. -g. Add a bit of 'Paint it Black' in for a short moment and an improvised attempt at 'polkacore', using a toy accordion he had with him, prompted by an audience member earlier on in the evening and you have the set (how's this for a run-on sentence?). It was great. But like I said before, Greg Davis and I am robot and proud played excellent sets as well. Was this a typo? Did you mean to assign "are" to the singular case? This may seem like splitting hairs, but perhaps it explain why you view others as pompous. You're right about the powerbook though. There is no getting around that. He does have a g4 powerbook. You called it.

I haven't seen him live, so this may be off the subject, but I just heard his carpark release Arbor and it one of the best albums I've heard in some time. If anyone is semi-interested they really ought to check it out. Brandon

last weight = 186. all in the hips, legs, po(r)t belly. i'm all skin and bones elsewhere (thanks to morlk eat's 'not a hot dog' line). maybe even slightly below average for a 5' 11" american upper-middle class multiple-computer owning male. pomp(lem)ous(se) = well... preppy = if only garment district dollar-a-pound days would yield tiny hand sewn alligators... until then it's old navy irregulars... higher than thou = definitely, morning noon at night (actually, other than the occasional czechpilsner...). had a nice kenneth kole laptop case that i bought for $30 from kenneth kole himself, peddling kenneth kole wares (i didn't know they made a gunny sack until then) on 93rd & broadway, upper west side, mid july. or so he claims. the stitching was sub-par, no steel reinforcements for the handle-straps. was stolen a few weeks back, along with said computer. so i suppose i'm back down to 'everyman', aka 'durst'... ps. thankz 2 ahl ma dawgz who made it out the the shows 3/14-4/27. i will listen to your demos and advise accordingly... early winners: the books 'thought for food'. just fucking amazing woody guthrie meets kluster meets just really great sound. nick zammuto & paul de jong. out soon on tomlab. new blechdom material. out of fucking orbit, digital campfire singalongs...
