Overheard during Greg Davis' set last night in LA- "I'm leaving." "Why?" "Who is this?" "Greg Davis." "He should be ashamed of himself." Ouch. I myself thought Daedalus' set was decent and likable, although from his recorded stuff I expected him to be a bit edgier or to take more chances and so it was sorta bland to my ears, but like I said, it was pretty good. Lexaunculpt was really good with most of his songs being beaty with a couple floaty ambient interludes and this wonderful ambient to space-shuttle-lift-off-noise crescendo. The kick drum sound, though, was way too loud during his and Greg Davis' sets. Greg Davis I didn't really like too much, either. I haven't heard his cds, so not only was this a first impression but it was also in a live setting, but his songs didn't seem to have too much substance to them. Some forgetable beats, forgetable basslines, even the guitar parts that he played live didn't strike a chord with me. It didn't help that, again the PA and the kick drum especially was way too loud. Unfortunately, I too had to split before Hrvatski who I really wanted to see, but we working stiffs have to get up early.

Vat and Greg were talking about this as they were prepping to leave Fort Worth, and my experience is the same. Rock sound guys don't know what to do with non-rock when mixing. You can tell them, "I have a mixer, just give me a flat EQ and I'll handle it." but they will NEVER listen. I thought Greg's short set in FW was pretty nice. I'm hoping the tracks he played are on the album. I know in the past I wasn't too fond of something on Autumn... Asterisk maybe? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
