Yo, Imagine my surprise yesterday, as, sitting in a kebab shop awaiting faux-Turkish nourishment and watching dire Australian soap opera 'Neighbours', I witnessed one clean cut young character (who is currently making waves as a DJ, due to his revolutionary stance of playing old funk and soul in his house sets) chastise another with the exclamation "Hey, this Squarepusher CD you sold me is all scratched!". Unfortunately, his companion did not respond with a reply along the lines of "Nah, that's just a lot of dsp fuckery and the general insane syncopation of old jungle breaks. You're so 2001!" That would have been strange... marciablaine.cjb.net available: s/t e.p. on Dalriada inclusion on Benbecula "Music Volume 2" forthcoming: inclusion on Law & Auder "I Am:Bient" inclusion on Struktur compilation _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Is he a DJ in real life or just in that soap? Neighbours lags behind 2 years over here, so my mom couldn't help me out on this one. :-)

He's a DJ in the show. I got quite familiar with it during a protracted period of unemployment last year. Honest.

Being currently deep within one such period of unemployment, I have been following Mr Reeves' musical tastes for quite some time. It is certainly eclectic, ranging from trance through 'banging house' to drum and bass. I have recognised quite a few of the CDs and records he has bandied about, although quite a high proportion are no-name Australian product placement 'bands'. Of late, the researchers have been inserting slightly more leftfield a selection, although I can't remember anything off-hand. I'll bet I know the music shop in Melbourne they've been going to as well. Last week Tad sampled Harold singing 'Amazing grace' and placed it over a really rather weird grindy noise with a vaguely housey beat on his Decks and MC303. Sadly, it was pretty poor, otherwise I'd have sampled that something proper. I've already got the intro to the theme tune (previous version) locked at 170 bpm somewhere in a fruityloops abomination... Tata, Tom.Get more from the Web. \\ round these parts we have an expression. it comes from our neighbours' superstar dj skills and refers to playing the last track of a set thats impossible for the next person up to mix into. we say 'i got tadded'. just last week i pulled a massive 'tad' by leaving a country moog record for someone to follow up. tad's influence is spreading... \\ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
