That's "My Heart Is a Flower." And I agree...if we on the list want something to point to as an example of non-intelligent dance music, the remixes of this track by Ivan Ivan are right up there. But the promo CD5 has a good live version of "Jesus Was Way Cool." C. -- hilker!chris (cspot@cats.ucsc.edu) "My home is Vulcan and everybody likes me there and they don't call me freak." Life is fair. There, I said it. If anyone asks, you can tell them I did.

So if you want to the list to clean up it's act lets try to discuss something of merit. OK: i'll start. One of the things about early IDM (then just "intelligent") that attracted me was it's open form. This started my investigation of electro-acoustics which led to my continued interest in contemporary composition. I would like to discuss: 1. What sorts of other music have you explored away from IDM since your interest began, and 2. How have these new avenues for exploration affected your life and/or world view. Ok, now let's play nice for a while... hip-hop! That is my most direct link from idm. To a lesser extent, jazz, but straight jazz. Jimmy Smith, for example. I can't say that my vested interest in idm drove me to jazz, but organ music this unexplored interest long before I understood the potential of electronic music. Electro-acoustic music is another one, but again, I can't place it in context. And I stopped listening to classical music as much. I think my discovery of idm is directly responsible. It sort of makes classical sound outdated. I can still listen to 20th century though. That is still interesting enough.

I really can't say that music affects my world view, but it certainly does affect my life. Reading a Noam Chomsky essay takes care of the "world view" aspect; music, if anything, takes these thoughts away. Maybe adds to them. I can't really answer that one. Yeah.

Not much really... I suppose it's given me more music to listen to. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

See, I said worldview, because to me, hearing the early Autechre albums led me to appreciating electro-acoustics. That in turn gave me a broader understanding of sound design, and more importantly, opens up new possibilities for music, and music theory. Thus affecting my world view. So the response to my post also yielded soem intrest in Hop Hop. I've got to say that Cannibal Ox does the very same thing for me! El-p's production brings in such a unique vision in sound design (70-s analogue elects., Strange time signatures, noises, phillip glass samples) that it really got me exploring the earlier analogue stuff. Granted, the Anticon posse is a more direct link to electro-acoustics and left-field music, but I don't personally enoy it nearly as much... _Donna Summer _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
