INFILTRATE 4.0 PRELIMINARY INFO... In 1999, Pl3x, a local design and print company established in 1997, together with various local organizations among the urban and experimental electronic community formed the first annual Infiltrate 1.0 in Miami. Infiltrate was held on March 13, the opening day of the annual music conference, as an act of defiance. We gained access to and attached ourselves to the largest electronic music beach festival ever held on South Beach (a 2 block long event on the beach itself). This beach festival had become the full embodiment of what this conference has always represented; showcasing mainly watered-down commercial and mainstream club acts. Pl3x secured a large vending spot and rather than vending, a large sound system was brought in and some of the most respected underground talents from Miami and around the world were smuggled in; talents that would normally be shunned by such an event. This subversive act was in reaction to the fact that although the conference is held here in our hometown, Miami's wealth of talented musicians and innovative labels are not acknowledged nor invited. The conference comes to Miami, sets up, and leaves without making any valid contribution to miami's underground. Our mission has become to flip the script by becoming a parasite within the underbelly of the beast and feed off it for the advancement of our cause. Pl3x and Miami's underground took action and now the aural virus known as Infiltrate has since spread. The goal is to spread until the host feels the symptoms of our musical rebellion here in Miami, which will only continue to grow. This year the focus is no longer the host (our point has been clearly made), rather on the growth and development of the virus, the infiltrate movment itself. This year the goal is to cultivate awareness of problems of the world around us together with underground music. There will be a handful of speakers speaking about subjects ranging to human right to how to start your own indepenedent record shop. All subjects that the mainstream media and music indusrty choose to ignore. The host has now no longer become some petty music conference but mainstream and corporate society and menatlity itself. United WE stand. why infiltrate? Local miami djs, labels and promoters continue to look for acceptance. They want to get a badge, throw a little party on South Beach and prostitute (oops we meant "politic") themselves. "We gonna blow up this year, kid!". why infiltrate? Americans citizens are sitting around waving flags while their rights are being stripped away because they're too busy shining their rims or cruising the mall, instead of in the streets protesting and exercising the rights they still have left. While our government locks everything down here in our country with secure anti-immigrant borders, ID cards, retina scans and on the outside the agenda of free-trade zones, globalization, the beginnings of a one-world currency US has given itself the green light to surveil and destroy groups that don't agree with it's foreign policy. Apathy and conformity is the disease we face in our community today. why infiltrate? Because we are alive and breathing and all of us together can make a change. "Indie" is a way of life not a label on some music. If you support indie labels and music, you should also be supporting indie food products, clothing companies, record shops, restraunts, films, etc. why infiltrate? We live here, this is our block. We all run shit here in Miami. Last year we were over 500 strong (mainly locals from here in Miami), this year we plan to double that. The infiltrate virus has entered the host and is multiplying. Can't do a damn thing to stop it.
