WARNING:for the weak of imagination. . .drivel follows Up with the sun this morning. (damn big moon last night eh!) Iced in for what seems like eternity here in New England I've been warming up to a 12" that earns repeat trips around the spindles of the Home basS 1210's. I have been hesitant to use the following cliche but here goes. . .It's the feel good track of the year. phew! COMATONSE RECORDINGS 000 (the creation of idmer Terre Thaemlitz) Raw Through a Straw-this is THE track that keeps me looking phorward to springtime. (i cant wait for the first outdoor playing) Coming in ever so chill is a Pink Floydian intro of organ sounds supplemented with piano droplets. The feel here is instantly soulful and very edge of the world. Perch your imagination on a cliff above the ocean. Big spacious free jazz sound. Te Quiero DeeP! (the beat hasn't even dropped yet!) With a gentle shift into rhythm we take off with the freewheelin' freestyle break. Terre has done a magnificent job making sure that the beats never dominate the continually jamming piano/organ that makes the song special. No doubt there is a musician at work here. (not always true in the world of techno) I have a special place in my heart for tracks that 1-feel no hurry to usher in the bpms, and 2-hold enough confidence in the dj not to throw in thump thump thump as a bpm crutch. This track has celebration written all over it.
