I don't know how you're promoting your events, but if you're promoting them as "IDM" it's entirely likely people won't know what it is. "IDM" is really a specialist genre -- no matter how many people may listen to various aspects of it, only a small fraction are aware of it being part of something called "IDM." Just think of Fourtet, who's currently blowing up across a broad spectrum of listeners: only the real geeky fanboys and zine readers will care whether it's IDM, trip-hop, downtempo or just electronica... Anyway, you may simply want to promote your events as "electronic music" nights, to get a broader audience. Possibly put names of popular artists whose records you'll be playing on the flyers. Anything to give people a clue and help them to make the connection between things they already know. You've gotta coax folks out, especially to attend something they may not be familiar with... Um... I posted something to the list before I went out to Sacramento looking for tips and got complete fuck all in the way of response. What venue is hosting these events, Capitol Garage? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
