I enjoy listening to entain.. or at least most of it. it's nicely dubby and subtle, whereas anima was more melodic and 'pretty' to my ears. I definitely prefer entain, but if you didn't like anima, which it is definitely similar to, you may want to find some mp3's before purchasing. derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- snappy one-liner

I prefered the Mutila disc on chain reaction over entain. Out of the Vladislav stuff I've heard, I think that his Uusitilo(sp ?) and Luomo releases are my favorites, but they are a bit more on the straight up tip.,,, Luomo being the closest to House. hm, is "entain" better than "anima"? "anima" didn't excite me at all. c. I totally agree with your lack of excitement. I like Vlad in his many configurations. (uusitalo, luomo, sistol, etc.) I believe he's a very interesting musician, and I'm ready for his next step. Anima is my least favorite Vladislav Delay, and I believe I'm not missing any of his CDs. I've also got some of his 12" vinyl tracks on CDR. My own pet name for Anima, which I've posted here before, is "I Can't Get Started." Not a lot of people here have agreed with me, but if it doesn't move you, I can empathize. Anima seemed to me to stay in the same space forever, and it wasn't all that interesting. Generally speaking, Vladislav will open a track with an audio statement, wander around a bit playing interesting variations off that, and gradually the piece will evolve into other areas, quite often with beats, but not always. Sometimes he returns to his original theme; sometimes not. I very much enjoy the way he follows his own path. Nobody comes close to what he's doing. I think he's a fascinating artist. Entain, on Mille Plateaux, is certainly more lively and more varied than Anima. It includes 2 of 3 tracks from his earlier release 'Ele' on Sigma, plus two others. There are actually 2 short additional tracks not mentioned on the cover. My favorite Vlad is the 128-minute mp3 Live at Nativelab. i decided to buy some Vladislav Delay due to the raving about him on the IDM list, and i was kinda curious when i bought 'Anima', thinking, this is the great artist everyone's talking about? frankly, i do think that 'Anima' is interesting on a certain level, it reminds me of Brian Eno in a certain way, and i do like the way the beat sorta dis-integrates and becomes quite chaotic, but never really completely falls apart. but based on that i wouldn't have ever bought any more of his material, but if his other stuff is much more interesting, i might give it a second chance. c. . .... . . --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

For the vladislav delay fans out there, the Staubgold will be releasing a new live cd from vladislav delay called 'Naima' in the next month or two. here is the press clipping for the release: DELAY, VLADISLAV: Naima CD (STAUBGOLD). "Exclusive live recordings from the Ars Electronica Klangpark 2001. For this exclusive release, limited to 2000 copies worldwide, Vladislav Delay compiled the best moments of his live recordings during the Klangpark sessions at Ars Electronica festival 2001. On the basis of the sound material used on his current studio album Anima (Mille Plateaux) Delay transformed the park near the river Danube into an impressive acoustic environment. Music for a river and for passers-by. Out of his home in Helsinki, Finland, Delay has brought forward a new directive into the sounds of dub and minimal electronics, placing him as one of the premier artists involved in the recent wave of electronic dub hybrids. His music, released on labels like Mille Plateaux, Chain Reaction and Sigma, is a continuous mix that reveals itself beyond audio design. Delay succeeds in developing his new methods of production and altering music as it is typically translated. Rather than familiar electronic traits of looping sounds, the music continually develops in an organic flow, thus giving the interpretation that perhaps the music is less a digital excursion and more an instrumental development." I've havent gotten a chance to hear this one yet but am excited to do so. -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
