hm,
is "entain" better than "anima"?
"anima" didn't excite me at all.
c.
I totally agree with your lack of excitement.
I like Vlad in his many configurations.
(uusitalo, luomo, sistol, etc.)
I believe he's a very interesting musician, and I'm ready for his next step.
Anima is my least favorite Vladislav Delay, and I believe I'm not missing
any of his CDs.
I've also got some of his 12" vinyl tracks on CDR. My own pet name for
Anima, which I've posted here before, is "I Can't Get Started." Not a lot
of people here have agreed with me, but if it doesn't move you, I can
empathize. Anima seemed to me to stay in the same space forever, and it
wasn't all that interesting.
Generally speaking, Vladislav will open a track with an audio statement,
wander around a bit playing interesting variations off that, and gradually
the piece will evolve into other areas, quite often with beats, but not
always. Sometimes he returns to his original theme; sometimes not. I very
much enjoy the way he follows his own path. Nobody comes close to what he's
doing. I think he's a fascinating artist.
Entain, on Mille Plateaux, is certainly more lively and more varied than
Anima.
It includes 2 of 3 tracks from his earlier release 'Ele' on Sigma, plus two
others.
There are actually 2 short additional tracks not mentioned on the cover.
My favorite Vlad is the 128-minute mp3 Live at Nativelab.
