value? try to get their sensurreal albums, both released on speedy j's beam me up! label also both ep's on evolution/universal language, starbirth and vulkan princess are really good, especially starbirth something in the same vein? don't know about that, they sound really different than other stuff in that jazzyfunkeeidm... i like unrest by rei harakami but it's different though. definitely hard to compare gerd's sound with anything, some of the longer tracks reminded me of some global communication stuff and some of ian o'brian's tracks from desert scores, which is essential release. yes! ian o'brien's stuff definitely has some similarities with gerd. but gerd sounds so evolution release, so you might like the horn ''hornography'' (evolution/univ.language)...nice album! also if you like gerd you might like some of the older pork recordings stuff, gerd also released a 12" on pork... i recommend 1st fila album (old codes new chaos), bullitnuts stuff (all 3 albums) tetris "tetris" (and maybe heights of abraham 1st release (humidity), akotcha's sound burger is also somewhere in the same vein and baby mammoth's 1st album (bridgin two worlds). yeah, gerd is definitely mixed sound of some pork (especially tetris and early fila and bullitnuts), ian o'brien and global comm some of jamie o'dell (aka jimpster, audiomontage) is also similar, like perennial pleasures ep (freerange/kudos) or martian arts (CD release on instinct electronica), some dot stuff like argonort (everything) and some friend stuff (sauna sessions ep) and endlessnessism compilation, metamatics ''neoouja'' (hydrogen duke box), max brennan ''alien to whom'' (sublime), as one ''in with their arps, and moogs, and jazz....'' (clear), transporter ''transporter'' (source), conjoint ''earprints'' (source), carpet bomb compilation and some unagi patrol stuff, the primitive painter ''the primitive painter'' (r&s), some scott edward's stuff (especially uriel stuff that was released on emissions comp. called ''fresh emissions'', and maybe ''under compulsion album on beau monde), roupe ''entelechy'' (resource)... enough! :) mainly, you might like those i mentioned if you are into gerd ... bye rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

What a brilliant and helpful mail ! This is the IDM-list at its best. Thanks Rob, you're setting a good example :-) (PS Tetris : I've recently heard their album for the first time, and was totally disappointed. Very same-y and noodly imo.) Everything Rob mentioned, also John Beltran, and Detroit Escalator co. if the mellow detroit flavour laced through in the Gerd/Sensurreal stuff appeals. The Paul Hester 12 on Heard (evolution offshoot) for the chunky housey vibe.. Definitely Stasis, Redcell, anything by Russ Gabriel etc for the funky techno feeling, also some Plaid and CiM and just about everything on DeFocus and Delsin. Also, some amazing stuff coming out of west London on a similar tip. The awesome Afronaught and New Sector Movements albums (although avoid if soul vocal adverse), Ian O'Brien, Kirk Degiorgio/As One/Offworld Ensemble, and definitely Domu who does some inspirational jazz drum programming. Love this kind of stuff, looking forward to hearing other tips..
