actually, this reminds me of something i have been wondering about... for those of you who digitally sample compact discs (or perhaps vinyl- i haven't noticed), you will know what i'm talking about: when you pitch down certain samples even slightly, this real high pitched tone is uncovered. is this something from analog recording, like some weird inaudible pitch on the tape or something? thx, zak. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

the same thing happened to me the other day when i used soundedit to pitch down a ghetto casio drum track... and if it's anything like the tone you got, it's pretty annoying and unfortunately high in the mix (yes, i did what i could with the eq). so, what's up with this, oh wise science bots?

this isn't 100% exactly what you are asking about, but it describes PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) and sampling rate problems which are more than likely the culprits here. http://www.scena.org/lsm/sm7-2/dvd-en.html Hope this helps. -somrux. http://www.somrux.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "nat hawks" <natbot@hotmail.com> To: <zacharymastoon@hotmail.com>; <gollum@videotron.ca>; <idm@hyperreal.org>; <microsound@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, November 02, 2001 1:38 PM Subject: Re: [idm] High-pitched hum in samples (was : in Pierre Henry CD)
