Yup. I admit it... Tonight, after re-acquainting myself with Latent Quarter and 2nd Bad Vibel I come to grips with the fact that I just find earlier Ae much more listenable and interesting than their recent release. Guess you call it cowardess, but I'm not prepared to go on like this :-P~ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Listen to your Yahoo! oh darn - seeing as how so many people feel they have to state how unpopular Confield is with them, I just have to be a fool and say I find it by far their best and one which takes their music to a new level. I love to be challenged by music that makes me think as well as feel, music that provokes questions as much as answers, and particularly music that sounds genuinely innovative, courageous, unique even - music that leads where others might (or might not) follow. Confield is/does this for me. There aren't many artists in this field for me personally, Jon Hassell, Kraftwerk, 70s Miles Davis and now with Confield, Autechre. Now I must go and read Philip Sherburne's meditation on genre. Of course for other people, other musics will fulfil these criteria and my own lack of knowledge means that I've much to hear - suggestions welcome! All the best, Colin.

you're not alone, assuredly. here's at least one other individual who had hopes the confield would hold in its content something as melodically beautiful as 'eutow'. good god that track just gives me fucken chills when it comes in. it's like a long lost love to me. i come back to it time and again, and just fall head over heels for it. it's just sexy as hell. it's lucious and dark, flowing and undulating; just waves upon waves upon waves of the most beautiful sound i think i've ever heard. damn...i miss it too. ::tri-rep era group hug:: : ) :mz · http://posthoc.org/ | http://ecesis.org/ 'if there were two of you, which one would win?'

You can officially make it a trio. The early autechre works are BY FAR my favourite. Amber, Incunabula, Tri-Rep being the favs. Those discs inspired just about every artistic endevour I was involved in from 95 til now. Music, design, and even thought. (I could see this easily turning into the proverbial 'worship' post, so I'll leave it at that!) ----- Original Message ----- From: ":m. zero" <mzero@ecesis.org> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2001 1:21 AM Subject: Re: [idm] Missing the old Autechre!

It is nice to have some company in my affinity for the early Ae music.. I read Wire, cmj, and a host of other newsgroups and magazines which supported listening to Confield until you felt that it was the best ever.... So I listened till my ears bled.. to no avail... In fact, my unhappiness triggered new exploration with an introduction to Pole, FourTet, Fennesz and 1-speed bike. These guys are breaking into some interesting areas of music, especially the last three.
