has passed away today, at age 53 :( http://www.rumba.fi/uutiset/suomalaisen-elektronisen-musiikin-pioneeri-mika-vainio-kuollut/ through 2016 i watched many 'famous' musicians pass away and although i always feel bad when the world loses another creative soul, this is probably the first such person whose death has really impacted me -- realizing that there will never be another album from this genius, and that his unique voice will be gone, really a sad moment. still, the impact that he made on sound, art, and music will resonate for many many decades to come. :(

Mika was and will undoubtedly be the most important and influential figure in Finnish electronic music history for generations, either directly or indirectly influencing every single modern electronic musician in the country. He kept on honing his craft until he died which is the very definition of dedication. It is a very sad day. May he rest in peace and hope the best for his close ones.
