something more on topic perhaps... what's the last album you listened to that blew your mind? (I would define 'blew your mind' as the last album where you knew immediately it was great) the last album that really blew my mind was Four Tet - Pause, which I listened to yesterday. before that, Deltron 3030. ps. I'm really diggin Joseph Nothing - Dummy Variations. good stuff. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Not really on topic, as it's not IDM... But the recent album by Portland OR's HOCHENKEIT (pronounced "Hoaken-kite") called "Omu4h 4aholab / 400 Boys" is quite the fun drone avant rock accomplishment... far better than anything I've heard from Godspeed You Black Emperor or the side projects thereof. It's one of those albums that levitates *you* as opposed to just levitate in front of you. And it does it without having to rely on blurring, distorting, and decimating itself over and over again -- as fun as that can be..(not to accuse GYBE of that specifically) Sorta like the ambient moments of Eno's "Another Green World", Thinking Fellers, Amon Duul II.... all using a pretty standard set of "rock" instruments too, for the most part. At least the first half of the CD title is IDM. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Monolake - Gravity. I heard it a few months ago, bought it, then went out and got Interstate and Hong Kong within a week. It's been awhile since something grabbed me like that. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! i have no idea whether this actually is a physical album or not, but there's something floating about soulseek by vim! titled "for your noodle". this thing blows my mind. i've had a longtime affixation for chiptunes and cheesy demoscene mods, and this album is a validation of that obsession - great things doen with simple sounds. the lack of any degree of fancy processing here allows the melodies/harmonies to come out that much stronger. plus, i love cheesy fast arpeggio chord sounds :P

So apparently there's this guy called Vim! who : "If you have done your homework you will find that Vim! has a very healthy history in the mod scene, and he is a whizz with the old chip tunes. He is the object of affection of his local postal lady, and he makes his shopping habits very public. Vim has a bulging vocabulary of audio skills, which he has used to great effect on his 18 track debut release. This man should have been released a long time ago. ": NOW - my question is this the same person who released that comedy house track as V.I.M. "Maggie's Last Party" in 1991? -i __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ok, so it's not an album but DJ Aura's set last Thurs. at Record Camp was a mind blower. If you thought IDM was only 'bedroom/headphone' music then you have to hear him spin. I'd list tracks but um... I was having too much fun to remember. There was an amazing sequence where he cut up Tour De France with something I didn't recognize and later some classic Tango N' Vectif/Bluff Limbo u-ziq. Otomi played a very nice set as well... Most recent album to blow my mind would be Susumu Yokota's Grinning Cat. Can't talk this one up enough. The man makes the most engaging ambient, it's amazing. I've never really liked ambient before, and who knows - maybe this doesn't qualify or something. But it's just so good! Precious piano loops in the beginning, sad sax on Tears Of A Poet, frightening flute on Fearful Dream - this is easily in my top ten for the year. -Adam _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If we're talking IDM here (not to start a category war), I was quite impressed by Funckarama's "Solid State". jeff

Gotta second that; another one would probably be Vert's "Nine Types Of Ambiguity". While I'm at it - just bought a CD compilation titled "Live Sets At Ego 1998-2000" with live recordings from Continuous Mode, Sutekh, Salz, Swayzak, Kandis, Antonelli Electr., Markus Nicolai, Kotai/Bader, Chris Korda, Khan, Jammin' Unit, Marcus Schmickler, Senking, Produkt, Thomas Brinkmann, Opiate, Kit Clayton, Leandro Fresco, Monolake, Smyglyssna and Noto - does anybody have any info as to what that's all about? I'd guess it's about some specific venue somewhere in Germany, but that's just a guess... Still, having listened to the first 3 tracks so far, I gotta say I dig it (even though the Sutekh track is off of "Periods. Make. Sense."...) -- Kurt Bernhard Pruenner --- Haendelstrasse 17 --- 4020 Linz --- Austria .......It might be written "Mindfuck", but it's spelt "L-A-I-N"....... np: Swayzak - Doobie (Live Sets At Ego comp.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

pen expers is definitely a great track. now i can't remember if the last album to blow our mind has to be IDM or not. If NOT: Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" as performed by Giuliano Carmignola and the Venice Baroque Orchestra. Conducted by Andrea Marcon. if SO: the last one that really made me stand back on go wow is "Confield." i guess i haven't been buying much IDM lately. luke
