Hey folks, I have been browsing this list for a while. My current incarnation is more of a techno DJ working towards production of who knows what abomination and evil ends. I have seen some old faces from the SF industrial scene post here (Hello!) and I think that is great as that is the scene I more I less grew up on before heading out to college and my current musical world Egregious/Bad Monkey. Just got in the mail yesterday the latest Computer Music Journal and I must say I was surprised! This issues included the yearly sampler and it was the first thing I looked at... My mouth dropped when I saw the likes of: Taylor Deupree, Kim Cascone, Coil, Kid 606, Thomas Brinkman, and about 30 other idm/microsounders. There is a great article by Kim Cascone titled, The Aesthetic of Failure: "Post Digital" Tendencies in Contemporary Computer Music. IDM list was brought up among other topics such as techno DJs! So, go out and find a copy. Don't know when the CMJ website will be updated, but this issue is worth the $30 cover price if not for the content for the shear joy of seeing academic recognition of popular computer music. Great forward from Joel Chadabe as well. You'll have to take a pic of the Prof's. face when Cex rips his shirt off and starts twisting his nipples like he did at the Knitting Factory show ;) Cex has the most entertaining live IDM show I've seen. Lot's of fun. Anyone in the area should definitely check out the show.
