hah, i note the new "Spin" has a feature on 'Laptop Funk and Powerbook Pop', with mini-interviews + features on Matmos and the SF crew (Kid606, Lesser, Blechtum..) anyhow, idmlist is rather prominently mentioned - re:kid606, 'he has carved out a career as a thorn in the side of IDM ("Intelligent Dance Music"), originally the name of an Internet mailing list for Aphex Twin fans, now a subculture of geeky obsessives.' Geeky obsessives? How dare you?! I mean, Matmos are pictured in the mag using a violin bow on a plastic-plant-covered table lamp, but they're touring with Bjork, so they can't _possibly_ be obsessive or geeky.. can they? :P heehee, but mock outrage aside, my favorite quote - Kid606 musing on Cex: "Ryjan has just got gold teeth made that spell CEX. He'll strip at shows. I'd almost say Cex is a threat to me - if I gave a shit." Ah.. if he gave a shit? Ahhhh, it all becomes clear. C'mon, I see a vital and potentially amusing IDM-list fight starting here. Let's get it _ON_ :P on the other hand, I just noticed the afore-mentioned "Spin" article was written by.. wait for it.. Simon Reynolds. and if that's not a cue for another idmlist flamerant, i don't know what is 0:) loveyouall! h0l. Jeeez, all this discussions have nothing to do with whatever style of music, but probably with some kind of urge to get you're (or whoevers) personal view about something. Every "quote" is just a quote in time and does not reflect anyone's "bringing over" his music. If Matmos, Bjork or whoever more "major" artist wants to use/or just love other types of music it is primarly because they want to give some people a chance. Whatever the results are it is a kind of statement. I have my questions myself but if you have some kind of honesty, you really can't discuss these points of view. You can extend these kinds of discussions to the point where artgalleries are dictating the musicindustry. The nineties were a fucking very selfish world to live in and now everyone is struggling to get hold of any principals. It's time to respect more people who do something. Which is the lack of most people. Just have a look around in whatever surroundings you are and ask yourself if these frustrations will be worth it by the time you/me/whoever dies and you think about what was wrong/wright with you're life. In other words: it's all very relative. Music is a luxury thing which develops in whatever kind of way you think it is important, but finally it is a kind of way of life. i'm really not the wisest guy around, but it needs to be point out that there is more to live then thsi kind of "truth/non-ethic etc..." kind of discussions. All the best, and hope you all have nice dreams... i will: Hoegaarden takes care of his:) j
