GOEM
Goem n. 1 a Russian word for the shops where only communist party members
could buy. Now abolished. Where Microwave and minimal techno could meet.
All analogue, no laptop. "Stumbling rhythms slowly creep out from under
ghostly swirls, respirating synthesisers open their mouths while tap-dancing
castanet players seek syncopation, their hearts stuttering. Sounds clatter,
whirl like wind and slough layers to reveal a relentless pulse. There's
scritchy-scratch like carpenter's nails nagging scalps" (Vital Weekly).
Goem is a collaboration by Peter Duimelinks, Roel Meelkop and Frans de
Waard. Frans de Waard - probably most known from his ongoing work with
Kapotte Muziek (since 1984), a, group that fully concentrates on recycling
through musique concrete. Besides being a member of ambient, group Beequeen,
Quest, Shifts and does ´silly´ (in his own words), unsolicited preferable
remixes as Captain Black. His day-job occupation is with Dutch record
company Staalplaat. Roel Meelkop - visual artist with a strong interest in
music. He is a member of the ducth electro-acoustic band THU20, and composes
solo under his; own name. Last year Trente Oiseaux released his first solo
CD ´9 (Holes In The Head)´, which was internationally well-received,.
Together with Frans de Waard, he is also a member of the live version of
Kapotte Muziek. Peter Duimelinks - besides running the V2-Archief label,
also active as a DJ and a former member of,THU20 and the third collaborator
in the live version of Kapotte Muziek.
Goem have been recorded extensively for Rastermusic, Mego, Bip-Hop, Mille
Plateaux , Staalplaat, Fallt amongst others. Goem run also the Audio.NL
label.
OPAQUE
You pinned your ears to their track on Fat Cat's <<No Watches. NO maps>>
compilation, now pin your eyes and witness the freeform improv /
instrumental sprawl of Opaque. A 3 piece band (guitar,drums + bass) who
improvise, swapping instruments as and when they feel like it. Their music
is dark and intense based around repeated phrases / loops which grow and
evolve usually culminating in a high volume wall of sound. Watch them
levitate before your very ears!
DISKONO DJ'S
Klaus and Joel the Pogo Cop twins, wrenched apart at birth by an
administrative error, reunited twenty five years later by the wonders of the
CD pause button and wandering headphone police. Klaus and Joel will be
previewing material from forthcoming Diskono "Unattainable Text" 12"
"commercial failure" series, plus waving the cover of forthcoming Felix
Kubin / Aavikko 7" in the air. Current hits of tomorrow spinning on Mr.
Twirly today : Chou Parrot, Liedertafel Margot Honecker, Karaoke Camping,
