my neighbor totoro - a pure delight.
i stand alone - what if camus directed taxi driver,
and made it less fun.
akira - "tetsuo!" "kaneda!" saw the remaster in nyc
recently, incredible!
chungking express - wong kar wai's incredible film
about loneliness. moves me everytime i watched it, got
a dvd of it direct from china. made me realize just
how good the song "california dreaming" is.
crash - great book too.
eXistenZ - apparently some of you hated this. too bad.
I felt it was the film that successfully tackled the
ideas that the Matrix pretended to discuss. Also,
Cronenburg is such an fascinating director and writer.
All of his films that i've seen so far have impressed
or totally blown me away. the fly, videodrome, and the
brood too.
ran - saw it in it's relatively recent reissue.
completely floored me. a 3 hour+ long film that felt
like 90 mins, and one with deep meaning at that. it
seemed akira kurosawa could control the clouds even.
pure genius.
cremaster # and # - i forget which two i saw and i
couldn't figure out what it was about really, but i
enjoyed it quite a bit when i saw it somewhere in nyc
a few years ago. Apparently Mathew Barney dragged
Matmos to see Cryptopsy recently, haha. Too bad i
wasn't at that show myself.
the holy mountain - that's some crazy shit. brilliant
mindfuck.
2001 - quite a good film, eh?
schramm - nekromantik director's fourth film could be
described as henry: a portrait of a serial killer if
directed by david cronenburg, but not quite. Very
disturbing, very well made.
brazil - enuf said.
so i married an ax murderer - thought this was going
to be all high brow, heh.
lone wolf and cub 1-6 - fantastic series of samurai
films.
etc etc etc, goodnight.
anthony
