Gridlock- Trace Still by far the best thing out there right now and the best cd this year. Creepy, ghostly atmospheres with some surgically precise drum programming. Must-have. Surgeon- Diametric 12", Midnight Club Tracks 1 12", Body Request I love those pounding beats. Somatic Responses- Augmented Lines The brothers sure have knocked the aggression factor down a notch with this one. Still more fierce than the vast majority of cds out there, but it's a very nice change for them. In the past some people have been put off by their stuff saying that it was too brutally pummeling, too relentless. This one, hopefully, will turn some heads and change some minds. It seems like these guys are putting out music with almost Muslimgauze-like frequency. Clicks and Cuts II I was a bit wary of this one. Didn't really like the first and, to be blunt, don't usually like stuff this minimal. But many/most of these songs are intriguing and engaging, show some nice development and have some nice sounds. Although I still probably wouldn't have bought it if not for finding it in the used bin. Arovane- amx 12", Torn(?) 12", Icol Diston 12" I finally picked up Tides the other day but don't like it nearly as much as Atol Scrap. The twelvers are great. L'usine- Surface EP And it was a wonderful performance at CalArts a couple weeks ago. Did he play for something like a hour and a half? Outstanding. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Well, I'm still on my second listen regarding this (hey, it's 3 full CDs after all), and I have to say that I quite like it; I also liked the first one, but somehow the Kid606 track was quite a turn-off with all the nonfitting noisy outbreaks... :/ (then again, his track on the new comp. is much better...) As for other comps I'd currently recommend (not the newest ones, I admit, but I can't remember there being much talk about those here): Did You Hear? on Defocus - sounds like an update to the Artificial Intelligence comps. on WARP to me - and I mean that in a positive way, mind you - and no, this doesn't mean it sounds dated... (got it from WARPMart, which seems quite fitting, BTW... :) Total 2 on Kompakt - starting off with an aggressive track from Reinhard Voigt, which is not exactly what I was used to after hearing his Sturm, Sturmgesten and Premiere World albums, it's got both very dancy tracks as well as more ambient pieces, and good ones (IMHO) at that... Oh well, make what you want of this - I know I suck at reviews... ^_^ -- Kurt Bernhard Pruenner --- Haendelstrasse 17 --- 4020 Linz --- Austria .......It might be written "Mindfuck", but it's spelt "L-A-I-N"....... np: Frank Bretschneider - Walking On Ice (Clicks + Cuts 2 comp.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
