Benge is the guise of Essex UK producer Ben Edwards who most recently is known for his Tennis collaborative cd with Douglas Benford (aka Si-Cut-DB) on the Bip-Hop label. But before Tennis Benge had amassed quite a catalog of releases. He released seven cds on his own Expanding label since 94 as well as a 'best of' compilation on the Quartermass/Sub Rosa label a few years ago. Rumor has it that Benge's Expanding label, which has been dormant for a few years, will start releasing material soon in the form of a 7" series. yes this is exact, and I think that the very first single will be by Tennis philippe TENNIS : europe on horseback [bleep 03] Europe on Horseback, as its title suggests, is a relaxed voyage. The rhythms slowly draw you into a cushioned saddle and an electronic trot then begins, taking us through fields of bubble bass, valleys of sonic glitches, and mountains blooming with digitalia. Not quite as minimal as Pole but just as deep. They never break into a gallop, conserving energy rather than letting it run wild. This record is a form of deconstructed dub / house which avoids 4/4 time at every corner creating a relaxed, challenging and accessible electronica lined with interesting bass lines.
