I must say I'm very fed up with people suggesting that other people are making music simply as a piss-take or to piss off others. I've had that kind of accusition made about myself, as I am half of an all synthetic grindcore band, very very extreme to most people's ears, and often times people just don't get it, and think we are doing it to be funny. That's not the case, though we have a sense of humor. Also, I used to play a lot of harsh noise stuff live, using a boombox with the back cut open, short circuiting it with my fingers. A lot of folks didn't know how to take that either. I usually figure that an artist believes in what they are doing. Sure, it MIGHT be a pisstake, (and we all know what i am refering to as "it") but I think it's a lot healthier to believe it's a serious work, and if you don't like it, then ignore it. What really annoys me is the insinuation that those of us on the list who have come to expect a certain level of difficulty with the initial listens of a record by a certain artist, and are thus willing to give it the deep listens it requires, are just doing it because the artist in question is cool. what a load of bollox. In my personal experience, I've had many records take quite a bit of time to click. From Napalm Death to Prince, they've initially struck me as stupid or bad or horrible, and a month or 5 later I stumble across the record in my collection, pop it in, and suddenly realize what i've been missing out on, and end up loving the record. So this is part of my listening habits now. If at first i don't like it, I give it another chance later. Sometimes it turns out I really don't like it. Plug for example, I really don't find anything engaging about drum'n'bass for poppa, and i've given it a fair share of listens over the past few years... anyhow, this has gotten into a rant/ramble, so i'll end it here. anthony __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
