idm list: it's been real it's been fun it's been educational it's been vitriolic it's been embarrassing most of all it's gotten repetitive and i think the discussion has covered as much ground as it's going to. i don't want to sound like a bitter old coot, but i guess it's just like unsubscribing from the 'grunge' mailing list circa 1993. after i've seen the threads on autechre track names and why the name idm sucks (i think we can all agree it does...) i figured out that such a narrow scope of discussion can only lead to the same issues being hashed and rehashed endlessly, i've sat through my 12 iterations and now it's time for me to go. i think it's probably the same on any mailing list that is pointed at such a limited scope of discussion (not that we stayed on topic ever) (not that that's wrong either). i subscribed mostly so i could pick up info on music that i hadn't heard before, find more stuff to listen to -- i did -- but the signal-to-noise ratio has gotten so weak that i just feel like its a waste of my time to delete 100-200 messages a day when only one out of 1000 really sparks my interest. i predict this is a personal evolution that most list-members will go through at some point, it's not a "the idm list has gotten so bad" post. the idm list hasn't gotten any worse, i've just grown tired of reading the same old same old shite so before i split i gotta give shouts to those who made it worthwhile posthuman/smak posse twine sound wells atomly multsanta solenoid colongib damn ... i can't remember everybody i've had worthwhile discussions with but there's been quite a few, so don't feel left out if i forgot you ... heh plugs for my boys in ch/ill ... check these guys out yo salvo beta ... someoddpilot crew alder and elius .. skam usa eternals ... still the best live act in chicago oRSo ... the most advanced banjo music you will ever hear telefon tel aviv .... hefty records crew atropa ... follow-through, dog rude one ... you, your crew and your dj too bob(pal:n-drom)/ray-rod ... PLAY on mike javor ... /bin was the shit, good luck with hiao*3 weekend records and soap ... best electro and glycerin hard-boiled records ... fix your credit card machine hi-fi records ... only place to find bounty killer 45s onShore Inc. / onShore Devel ... keeping I.T. real i'm out josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I feel the same most of the time....I'm only here to pick up little bits of news & gossip that I'd usually miss...the discussions here always tend to go nowhere really (well, it feels like that to me anyway). Don't suppose anyone wants to start a special edited version of the list do they, which collects together the posts for the day and filters out the mp3.com plugs, ebay stuff, where we're from, and other such shite I'm really not interested in 99% of the time? I love the list, even the bad stuff, but the amount of noise just gets overwhelming sometimes. I'd be into having 2 different idm lists: one for people under 21 and one for the rest. ; -) Andrei

Yeah. I just started subscribing to the idmlist & theres a lot of random stuff. I like all the discussions about albums (lipswitch & confield for instance). Im not so much into where people are from, tho i am guilty of replying to that thread myself. How about a website where users can log in and contribute, a la Slashdot? I am currently running my own shitty (in all humility) little site with IDM Lyrics (formerly known as "The Richard D. James Lyrics Transcription Resource Project", now idm:lyrics:2.0), and I'd be happy to help out with some sort of digest/review/discussion site, that would be moderated by a relative few, but with lots of contributors, again like slashdot. How's that sound =) .Mikkel andrei@world.std.com said at ÒRe: [idm] ciaoÓ. [Mar/06/2001 17:59]
