Here is an attempt to heed the words of ol' clickpop and get some use out of this list: I have become quite a fan of most of the Xen Cuts Comp, and I'm looking to go deeper into the ninja. To date, I only have two Amon Tobin albums, and I'm interested in getting into the more hiphop/rap side of Ninja Tune (i.e. some of the really great stuff on the comp). Can someone/anyone give me a couple of suggestions of a) their favorite albums in this vein and/or b) a good starting point? i found the hip-hop/rap tracks on _xen cuts_ to be a little boring, and, unless i missed something, not really representative of ninja's output. i can only think of about ten rap albums they've done...please correct me if i'm wrong. the only ones that i actually liked were the roots manuva album, and vadim's last album (if that counts as a rap album). micah stupak /"\ laerm@soulfood.org ascii ribbon campaign \ / international bright young kook against HTML email X / \ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

check out some of the release on Big Dada, a sub-label/affiliate of Ninja Tune (right?). i've recently been turned onto the music of New Flesh For Old and Roots Manuva, and have had their "Equilibrium" and "Brand New Second Hand" albums (respectively) on heavy rotation ever since. i believe you can listen to samples of many of the Big Dada releases on ninjatune.net. - jo5_h beep boop muthafuckers http://braineater.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

vadim... life on both sides (ok, any vadim) consider it better than the jazz fudge stuff, and i'm sort of fond of that material... not that funki porcini is on the hiphop/rap side of stuff on ninja, but you should check porcini out. really.

Most of the BigDada releases are worth checking out (Infesticons, Roots Manuva, New Flesh For Old, Gamma & Ty) Also check out the Herbaliser, DJ Vadim & Kid Koala. The Infesticons "Sun Hill Road" is excellent, and Roots Manuva's "Brand New Second Hand" is the best hip hop album to surface in recent years.... Anything featuring Juice Aleem is also worth checking out (Gamma, Alpha Prhyme (With Luke Vibert), New Flesh For Old) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

All the lists i'm on do this (except the native-instruments one) i'm on about 10 lists.... All the eGroups (now Yahoo groups) do this, as do the UBB ones.... Hi Kurt, Finally a nice subject for the IDM list. Ummm the rap stuff on Xen Cuts is real good, however I've found it almost impossible to track down any of the artists on Big Dada (Ninja Tunes hip hop label). Some of my faves for Ninja Tune (that you'll probably be able to find pretty easily) are: Ninja Cuts Vol 3 - Funkungfusion Clifford Gilberto - I Was Young... (Very jazzy, and about the only drum 'n bass-ish album I've ever been able to stand) Kid Koala - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Didn't like it on first listen, but it has grown on me. Now I think it's too short, but quality takes time) The Herbaliser - Blow Your Headphones (Beyond great) Funki Porcini - Ultimately Empty Million Pounds I really like the Infesticons single Hero Theme. How is all of Gun Hill Road? I'm looking forward to the Wagon Christ release, and if it's anything like his other stuff I'm sure it'll be another great Ninja release. Will it actually be on Ninja Tune, or is it going to be on Big Dada with all the other Luke Vibert stuff NT has released (aside from singles on compilations of course)? If you're looking for rap that's up to the caliber of the Ninja Tune stuff, I'd recommend: J5 - Quality Control Common - Like Water For Chocolate Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030 Talib Kweli & DJ Hi-Tek (Reflection Eternal) - Train Of Thought But that's probably for another list. Which reminds me, does anyone know of any good hip hop mailing lists, where people might talk about stuff in the vein of the above 4 albums? I would search for one myself, but I'm sure I'd end up subscribed to a list continually touting the genius of Mystikal or some other such nonsense. Cheers
