Mocean Worker are a drum n bass crew out of NYC(?) no. mocean worker *i don't remember his real name* is one guy. he runs a jazz record label. he has recorded some of his own drum and bass and downtempo. his first release was kind of shitty, imo. a good idea, and some good concepts, a nice mood, but lacking in production quality. and a certain something else, otherwise. i heard something about his father being a jazz musician ofr something like that, as well. i just put on his latest single at the record dstore recently and it's housey. not good house either. boring crappy techy stuff. unlesss maybe i accidentally am remembering the b-side or something. but i've seen his ads lately and it looks like he decided to go for some straight up cheese. i have his first release somewhere but i don't plan on digging for it for more info. i say check it out, make up your own mind. a. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Indio is third-wave Detroit techno producer John Beltran's latest project. If you like Indio I recommend checking out Earth and Nightfall on R&S, Ten Days of Blue on Peacefrog and Placid Angles - The Cry also on Peacefrog. (Yes, that is placid angLEs, not placid angELs. Nobody ever seems to notice that). They are all quite beautiful, my personal favourite being Earth and Nightfall. Wonderful music full of soul and feeling, it's one of my all time favourite albums. There's also Moving Through Here, which is also pretty good but it's a bit different in style, sorta more jazzy. I'd check out the others first. Ross. ----- Original Message ----- From: "...(Sunsp0t)..." <sunspot@subdimension.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Thursday, February 08, 2001 2:00 AM Subject: [idm] Few Artist Questions...

Hello, Indio is a pseudonym John Beltran used for an ambient LP on Transmat. I did not find it to be that outstanding, outside of a cut called Snowdrifts. Snowdrifts is also available on the Time:Space compilation, which I would recommend purchasing instead of the Indio full-length. If you are looking for Detroit downtempo material in a similiar vein, I would strongly recommend you look into Neil Oliverra's work as Detroit Escalator Company. Peacefrog recently issued a compilation CD of selections from 1996's Soundtrack313 of Ferox(which is long out of print) as well as 2000's Black Buildings EP. The name of it escapes me, as I already have the other material on vinyl. I would also recommend Ion by Theorem, 7 days by Kenny Larkin, Innovator by Derrick May, and Carl Craig's Psyche/BFC comp. oh well, enough 313 pontification, time to get back to work. ;) Take care, Mike Taylor
