anyone hear the new morgan geist record? according to the wire review, it moves away from the old tech/g-funk style and is more of a straight up disco record... sounds intriguing. Oooh, can't wait for that one. Driving Memoirs is -- okay, no hedging -- the best thing Clear ever put out, and definitely the one electronic album I just can't stop coming back to (IDM with a shelf life!). he's released two eps with darshan jesrani as "metro area". they're in the organic house field (i e sound *like* disco, instead of *sampling* actual disco records and looping 'em up as most do in that vein nowadays). both are quite good. hope this helps. andrew duke :) ps daniel wang's forthcoming full-length on environ (out feb 2001) is something to be watching/waiting for. it's superb. agreed - the metamhorphic is excellent. check out the new matro area [#3] he did alongside darshan jesrani - slightly more organic feel than the metamorphic with some musos on flute, bass and rhodes but still enough going on to stop it being too noodly and faux-jazzy. what is the new dan curtin like on metamorphic like? also, on this line of music does anyone have a discog. for daniel wang or what he's up to at the moment - the 'silver trophies' release on environ was one of the top releases of 2000. cheers sc ********************************************************************** Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ABN 48 123 123 124) ********************************************************************** --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yeah, agreed. Those Metro Area 12s in particular are great fun. They're pretty similar to some of Daniel Wang's stuff on Balihu, if you've heard much of that? He had a 12" on Environ, MG's label, which I haven't heard but would probably fit in pretty well. I still hold fondly in my mind a gig I was at maybe 5 years ago now (!? time flies), where a DJ dropped some Morgan Geist tunes. It was just sooooo nice to dance to. That was the less housey, more electro stuff he used to do, like the album on Clear.
