As before I'd like to share with you my happiness. I got new CDs. Here's a brief look at them. Please do not be confused by such high marks - all realeses I've got this time are brilliant in their own way. Happy I am! 1. Autechre - EP7 (Warp/Nothing) At last. A la fin de fin. After all my troubles with Bent Crayon and other private sources of music I finally acquired it to finish my current collection of all Ae CD releases (Of course I wait for the new ones...) being a devoted Ae fan for more than four years I can say that I love all they've done up to now. This last release is not an exception at all. I admit that the spirit of melodic deepness and industrial romaticism has somehow faded in their recent releases and every new one seems to be more complex and multi-structured but less emotional. However, I believe the way they walk is the right one and I love these new tracks as well. As always, it is hard to describe it and many of you did it long ago (being in the backyard of musical world has its effects on me) thus I'll just say that it is a great CD and must have for most of idm heads, epecially Ae fans (new ones and old timers as well). This one seems to be logical continuation of Chichli Suite and LP5. Let's look forward.... 8.5/10 2. Mouse on Mars - Nuin Niggung (Thrill Jockey) If EP7 is continuation of LP5, then Nuin Niggung is definitely a sequel to Autoditacker which is my favorite MoM up to date. More fresh sound, less simplistic melodies, introduction of live instruments like pipes and guitars, same charm and emotional tinges, and all those small things for which MoM has been renown for many years are there. Great album from idm masters. 8.5/10 3. V/A - Ishemic Folks (Schematic) I bougth this CD because of Phoenecia and Richard Divine tracks on it and I have to admit that I've received twice of what I expected. And my expectations were so bright! All of the tracks are gogeous, fantastic, beautiful. That's what Ae would be if they would evolve in their 97 style. This is what should be called today's idm. Electronic storm, digital assault, ocean of clicks and blops, squeaks and flicks. Expectional example of how compilations should be structured. No other words. Must have. 9/10 4. Monolake - Interstate (Compost) I've heard much about them from you and saw it listed number two in last year humble idm top ten chart and I expected to hear a good stuff without even knowing what they exactly do. Masterpiece is to say the least about this work. Genius mix of ambient, idm and slow electronica in a single production. The closest example from my view would be Bola's Soup. Same independence from others work and miraculous feeling of long forgotten beauty belonging to everything around us expressed in slow evolving digital rhythms. Very emotional and standalone release. 9.5/10 5. Plaid - Peel Sessions (Warp/Nothing) After hearing Restproof Clockwork I can be listed as another full-time fan of Plaid's recent material. This quite short single (17 min.) is another proof of how far they've gone in development of their own unique idm sound. Four absolutely different tracks are another addition to a number of their latest work. This CDS has been played by me more than all my new CDs. I love it. You'll love it as well. 8/10 6. L@N - Twoinone (Staalplaat) As with their self titled CD release there is not much to say about it. It is great! Same minimal approach, same unique stereo effects, same mix of funny melodies under veil of more deep emotional structure. From the first seconds of this CD you would know that it is L@N if you've heard at leats one track from them. If you like them it is must buy. If you haven't heard them - you're missing a lot.... 9/10 7. Mouse on Mars - Glam (Sonig) LP My first idm vynil has finally arrived and I am glad it is such a brilliant release as MoM's soundtrack Glam. Slow and fast, silent and loud, idm and ambient, clicks and blops, exceptional melodies and mind soothing soundscapes. MoM fans - I'm with you. Masterpiece for once more. 9.5/10 Thanx for viewing. Also I'd like to ask a possible info on Schematic rooster - who are Metic and Gleise? I liked their tracks very much - are other materials by them in the same vein? Are they available on CD? np. A review of "Omni Bot/Kid-606 Unamerican Activity" from those paragons of critical writing - Muze: "He had released two practically LP-length works in less than a year (including the LSR/Kid 606 split) before Unamerican Activities came out, but this style of drum'n'bass industrial thrash must be quite easy to produce. As examples of the style go, it's just as good (or bad) as any of his others." ~ John Bush [MUZE] I'm encouraged now to produce a few albums in my spare time.... -i --- Diana Potts <diapot@allmusic.com> wrote:

As usual by recent package from idm shop: 1. Fizarrum "Monochrome Plural" Probably the best record of the year! I though that I would never hear that digital magic since Chiastic Slide made a storm in my soul... Perfectly complex yet amazingly melodic idm trip from "Russian Autechre". Make no mistake, however, bear in mind that you will hear absolutely original beauty... Genious... Gorgeous...Fantastic... 10+/10 2. Marumari "Wolves Hollow" The fun and originality of the cover reflects the set of stunning original electronica on this CD. My first listen to Marumari appears to be the start of the long lasting love... 9.5/10 3. Gosub "A Collection of mind frames" A mix of bright and dark electronic tracks from Shad T. Scott aka Metalbeast continue my search for his material. Great long awaited full length from Isophlux records shows him in many faces which only support my opinion on his talent. Solid and diversified melodic idm content. 8.5/10 4. Bola "Mauver" Kinda late but I would like to give my vote to support this piece of art. Though first track seems kinda odd the rest is just fantastic... 8.5/10 5. Various Artists "Cashier Escape Route" Much better than expected. The CD holds about 85% preferred content for me personally which is a great result for a compilation at all. Arovane, Solvent, Pole, Isan, Lexaunculpt, Phonem, Styrofoam, Skanfrom, Dynamo and many others ranging from rare fun melodic idm to dominating ambient like electronica produce more than satisfying mix of moods and thoughts from current idm stars... 8/10 ok that's it for now, i wanna sleep.... Happy New Year to you all!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi All! It's been a while since I posted my reviews which I'm going to fix right now. Sorry if it gets too rapturous - I'm just completely happy to have that stuff: Phonem - Phonetic LP (Morr) Amazing. Brilliant. Fantastic. Ae fans and such shall crash the stores to get that. Four long tracks of everchanging idm tales told by one of the most sucessive downtempo idm acts up to date. Classics in its true meaning. (9.5/10) Richard Devine - Lipswitch (Schematic/Warp) I do not know why the list had only negative reviews about it so far. It is great! For those who dig into his sound on Schemetic comps and Odd Jobs, of course. Unprecedent mix of nice dark ambient short tracks with terroristic robot marches full of clicks, glitches, blops, cuts, etc. in Mr. Devine's favorite style. Must buy for those who like their brains torn and worn out by the storm of idm noise. (8/10) Proem - Burn Plate No. 1 Mix hard rhythmic crunches with beautiful tender melodies and boil them toghether for some time and you may get a feeling of what you going to hear on that CD. It is authentic and it is idm, but.... yu have to hear it to understand.. and listen to it more than once to realise that it is one of the best original idm ever released.... (9/10) Novel 23 - Melodies of Childhood for Advanced Imagination (Pitchcadet) Never heard russian idm? It is a great place to start if you are looking for tender electronic warmth blended into amazing rhytmic landscapes. I've just had a call on 8:00 in the moring from a friend who started like screaming over the phone telling me how great it was that I gave him that CD last night... 8) (8/10) Jake Mandell - Underlings (Kodama) Never expected such album from a man who's tracks I've heard on various comps.... Excellent dark ambient album if you ask me. Not exactly idm, imho, but definetely worth checking if you like Lull, Koner, Lustmord and such. (9/10) Styrofoam - A Point Misser (Morr) Hmmm.. My English is not good enough to express my love to all of those artists I recently bought. Another amazing example of what modern idm is. Tender melodies, warm rhythms and soft crunches mix up in another electronic must buy fairy tale... (8.5/10) MD - Appelsap (Merck) One of the albums that I had in mp3 for a long time and finally bought in original CD quality. Comparisons are hard to find for this one. It is more pc electronic influenced than by pure idm. Imagine the best tune you ever heard from private pc composers that evolved since countless trackers (software) invaded pc market and you'll be close to MD sound. Great authentic electronic music. (8/10) Detroit Escalator Co. - Excerpts After Black Buildings EP I expected to get great ambientish idm close to Bola or Arovane's Atol Scrap... I got even more! Go and buy it immediately as it is fantasticly soothing record. If you want a deep relaxation in the sea of warm electronic vibes, you'll have even more of it. Tender downtempo for stargazing it is as told on the sleeve. (9/10) Ooops. I'm tired of writing this message already and I still have tons of great music to list... I'll skip to even more short version of my review.. Aspen - Album (Elephant Electronics) Downtempo ambient idm. (8/10) Aspen - Are you that retail snob? (Involve) Ambient like eletronic. (8/10) V/A - Cottage Industries (Neo Ouija) Great line-up including Phonem, Geiom, Yunx, Clatterbox, Penfold Plum, Bauri, Herrman&Kleine.... Must buy for imd fans. (9.5/10) V/A - Artist & Computer Good line up of sombre idm tracks by Lilienthal, Accelera Deck, Antarktic... I'll definetely go hunting for Liliental after this comp... (7/10) V/A - Putting the Morr back to Morrissey (Morr) Great comp of ambient and downtempo idm, tender and warm from Morr already famous artists. (8/10) Delarosa & Asora - Backsome EP (Schematic) Extremely original idm act familiar to those who have Schematic comps. Mix crunchy noise like idm with jazz and hip-hop and you'll at least be prepared to what you're going to hear. 8) Very short :( (8/10) I'm sure I missed some new stuff as I'm not at home now but this is at least a view of what I recently bought for my collection. Enjoy. peace Alien np.
