manual aka jonas munk jensen is a 19 year old producer from odense/ denmark
and after more than seven years of playing guitar & piano he just started to
combine electronic with "analog" instruments.
manual doesn?t improvise very much (you can guess it from the name!), all
his songs are composed without using a computer. manual uses old-school
synthesizers and sometimes samples in combination with guitars and pianos to
create well structured songs and soundscape-like compositions. a year ago he
took artists like to roccoco rot, jim o ?rourke or boards of canada as a
starting point and throughout the year his sound has evolved to a strong and
fragile character of it?s own.
to listen to manual?s music evokes the need for endless summer nights or
similar things we can?t get enough (like the beautiful cloudy sky on the
sticker of his record ...).
the manual e.p. doesn?t insist on functional music, the most important
element is the transportation of feelings and thoughts supported by
wonderful melodies and rhythmic accents. in spite of using "old" instruments
manual`s sounds and songs are, what we might call timeless in a certain way
and as future as the esa space project at the same time.
beside his solo project manual plays in the band limp, studies at the
university of odense and likes to draw sweet memories straight into our
minds. future plans of manual are an album on morr music in april and a 7"
on static caravan early spring.

? info
shortly after the release of their second full-length album, mark fell from
snd teams up with hobby industries for a very special 12", containing solo
material only. recorded at the same time as the sessions for the mille
plateaux album 'stdio',
however, it is even more stripped down in parts than snd, the few remaining
elements have even more space to develop their own ideas or to fight against
high-speed dsp-processors. with the six tracks for hobby industries, the
listener is confronted with a kind of rougher, more direct approach compared
to earlier releases. speed, groove, repetition do not recognize the
authority of sequencers, bpm's or grids here. in this sense it is closer to
his work as shirt trax (on or).
mark has just completed a remix of the project. but this was not just a
normal remix process. for the project he fixed light sensors to the top of a
disused lighthouse and got people with torches to activate the sensors. this
manipulated the patterns and sounds to create a remix.
mark fell is from sheffield where he grew up and studied. he works with mat
steel on snd (mille plateaux) and with jez potter as shirt trax (or).
