I got nothing too IDM-specific in the way of specific live acts happening while you're here, but Grimes plays on the 31st, she sold out the Fillmore (2 nights) which is pretty remarkable for someone who gets essentially zero air play or label promotion. As for record stores, check out Mikebee's fabulous Vinyl Dreams on Haight near Steiner - one of the last true DJ record stores in the whole area run by real music fans. At the other end of the spectrum, and the other end of Haight, is Ameoba, which has one of everything and often it's in the used bins overstock for $1. Brian On Sun, 18 Oct 2015, DJ Tinus wrote:

For CDs I would go to Amoeba, Aquarius and Rasputin. Vinyl Dreams is great but they don't sell CDs. I scored big at both Amoeba and Aquarius in the dollar CD bin recently, great time to be digging thru CDs! Oh yeah, not sure if it's still there but Rasputin had a second shop on Haight street super close to Amoeba. Worth taking a look at. Party-wise: 10/29 Convextion dub techno master plus Solar, killer local dj: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?751969 10/29 experimental noisey techno and EBM http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?766038 10/30 more noisey techno http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?756266 10/31 This should be pretty special. Maybe not IDM but experimental takes on techno and electro. Proper underground vibes: https://www.facebook.com/events/872697002815092/ 10/31 Adult. screens films http://grayarea.org/event/adult-s-three-graces-tryptich-horror-films-with-live-score/ 10/31 Juju and Jordash play pretty weird live house music, and Carlos Souffront is an extremely good acid DJ, rest of music will be pretty straight forward house and techno http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?747449 11/1 monsters of EAI tour http://centerfornewmusic.com/calendar/sfsoundsalonseries-presents-akiyama-eubanks-kahn-nakamura/ also you should go to the Audium. It always sells out so be early. http://www.audium.org/ probably other stuff going on too, I don't live there anymore so I'm out of the loop. 5lowershop and SPAZ do really good parties, IDM and breakcore usually represented. I'd hunt around on facebook closer to that weekend. Good luck + party hard. On Tue, Oct 20, 2015 at 9:31 PM, Brian Behlendorf <brian@hyperreal.org> wrote:

Thanks for the recommendations Chris! I've been in the Bay for two years now, but I rarely get out (thanks, crippling anxiety). Maybe I need a Facebook? I get emails from SPAZ, but I'm out of the loop otherwise. This social anxiety shit needs to stop. I wish I could just go out and enjoy some music without getting paralyzed. The darkness at the ae show really helped me to let go and dance; it was so fun and refreshing. -- Sean S. -- Sean Selvig 415.301.9132 On Oct 20, 2015 8:16 PM, "Chris Taylor" <christaylor415@gmail.com> wrote:

Timely thread... I'm in Bay Area the Nov 1st - 6th for work. Both Amoeba stores and Aquarius are always my first stops, but is there a good site for shows? Something like The List, which I was very happy to see was still around after having not used to for almost 20 years, but hopefully with 100% more electronic stuff? Only thing I'm doing so far is The Ex and Ken Vandermark, which just sounds too good too miss. On Wed, Oct 21, 2015 at 3:22 PM, Sean Selvig <seanssel@gmail.com> wrote:

Thank you very, very much! I was very disappointed that I wouldn't be able to go to the Seattle show on the 30th, but now I can still see in SF! I just found out the Ex & Vandermark is this week, not next, so this was nicely timed to put off my disappointment over missing that show. Aquarius Records is always a must-stop for me when I'm in SF. Small, but meticulous in it's curation. Also, while not a record store, Robotspeak on Haight St is run by some folks that are truly dedicated electronic music fans and they usually have a line on the more niche/underground stuff that's not widely publicized. And if you're into synthesizers and electronic music gear, you'll geek out there for hours! Sent from my iPhone
