I picked up the datach'i album after reading some GLOWING reviews of it. I have to say that I was horribly dissapointed by it. I've tried to give it a second an third chance but it just does sounds like a bunch of DSP wankery with no real substance to back it up. I guess its part of the whole new plug-in disease that seems to be running rampant these days. By substance: I'm refering to musicality, fresh ideas, innovative production. Not just screwing around in soundforge. Plug-in disease- much like the dreaded over abuse of Kai's Power tools. When the use of plug-ins or other dsp effects get over-used and abused. Usage- "that autechre remix of skinny puppy really has plug-in disease" I believe that with all the new and exciting tools that are available to electronic musicians, its all to easy to over-do it with the effects and just end up as noodly wank. As for the cure, its hard to say because the epidimic seems out of control ;) As for component: theres a bunch of info on our releases available @ http://www.mindstorm.com/component . The label is small and so far just two releases. The codec remix disc- almalgamation is due for release in a couple of days and features mixes by the likes of proem, zammuto, solenoid, xyn, adrien75, and thug. i had the same reaction to the Datach'i record... I was like "woah, this got a 5/5, best record of the decade comment???" but the more i listen to it, the better it gets. Currently sitting at about 3.5/5 in my mind, and we'll see how far it rises... I really like noisy brutally distorted stuff, but most of it all seems to be distorted the same way and it gets a little grating. so what is the second Datach'i record like? similar to the first in the drum style, but there are melodies and the songs progress somewhat. There is one song that is a piano version of the second song on the first CD and it sounds beautyful. also he uses other drum sounds, and a cleaner distortion. I recomend this release, especially if you liked the first one I am very glad you are sane. Maybe if I listen to it more I will like it a little, but I will, I promise never give higher than a 1/5 rating on this CD. nick www.manicdetroit.com www.8bitpeoples.com www.mp3.com/manicdetroit --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Wearealwayswellthankyou is the new album and I don't think it is too far fetched to say that if you like one, you will like the other. And, yes, they both do rock, although I personally would love to hear him (Michael Fraoli=Datach'i) introduce more extended drum patterns to his stuff. All of his cut-up, chopped-up experimentalism noise is cool, but in my mind at least, it would be a bit more cohesive with some loops. Also look for the "This is my EP" 12" also on Caipirinha with remixes from Bogdan R., Kid 606, and one more that I can't recall right now. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
