a grain is just a sample of audio, usually between 1-1000ms long (0.01 is
possible aswell, but pointless), this grain of sound is repeated,however
many times you want, and then it moves onto the next grain (and often each
grain is given an individual envelope to make the end result less harsh) the
advantage of granular synthesis is that you can pitch shift a sound without
changing is speed, or timeshift a sound without changing it's pitch.....
but i don't think it should be limited to samples, BT uses it quite a lot to
good effect.....
