I feel that there are two integral parts of the electonic musical movement. The Music and the technology. The problem with composers nowadays of the movement is that people have neglected the music(music theory, composition, etc) and concentrated all their energy on the technological aspect of the music. I feel this was one of the rock genre's downfalls(in most rock groups[excuse my possible ignorance in rocknroll]) and could contribute to the end of IDM movement. For someone to truly lead a new wave of the IDM movement something new must be done and .. the technology could go on forever, so extensve study in music theory must be done. qestseq _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Speaking of John Cage, does anyone have recommendations for a starting point, buying his recordings. I've put off listening to him for too long... _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. I'm far from being a Cage authority but you really can't ignore the Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano. g. -- Guillaume Grenier - gollum@videotron.ca in space there is no north in space there is no south in space there is no east in space there is no west --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
