check out Max/MSP if you are on a macintosh, otherwise i think Reaktor
might run on Windoze? i dunno... also check the archives because there
have been several threads on this topic recently
max/msp is more in the vein of algorithmic generation/modification of
sound/midi data than audio trackers, midi sequencers etc...
