I just saw a new cd release by Freescha but I didn't have the time to stop and take a listen. It was labelled "melodic electronica" (the shop in question, as is often the case, seems to mean IDM when it says electronica, but lets not open that can of worms :-)). Has anybody heard these people? What are they like? Nice ambient music with the occasional minimal yet funky beat. Overall, an enjoyable experience. I recommend them, their melodies and harmonies can be very beautiful. Check them out on the web at http://www.attacknine.com/freescha.html. -Greg P.S. - I am fairly new to the list, and have been lurking so far, but already all you folks have introduced me to a bunch of great new music through your suggestions, reviews, etc. Thanks a million!

freescha are 2 american peeps who make wonderful dark music. often hip hop-related beats, with dark basslines + beautiful & emotional melodies. best compared to the boards (in the childlike/naive melodies/detuned sounds kinda way) & not arovane (tides), although i think they have a very distinct sound of their own. they do walk on common grounds with the boards in the warmth of their melodies & the broken hip hop feel though... chronological discog & comments: freescha-s/t-attacknine 12" 500 copies. 3 tracks. their first ep. on this one the hip hop isn't that present. one track i remember is bulb which is simply beautiful with the vocoded singing in the end... freescha-s/t-attacknine cd 500 copies(?). mini album. 6 tracks. very good. the hip hop-influence is really coming forward here. plenty of lush melodies & we've got some shorter tracks as well. they even included a lovely beatless piano track... brilliant. freescha-pequod-attacknine 12" ltd to 250 copies, this is their 2nd ep. lush. even darker than their previous material. haven't had many listens to this yet, since i just got it a few weeks ago... watch out for their first real album, kids fill the floor, which will be released on attacknine in august on cd/2xlp! they've also done an ep for bad jazz which should be out soon too! maybe it's been released already? i can't recommend them enough! i suggest you pick up their cd, since it's the most accessible & maybe the easiest to find. all of their releases are lovely, so if i were you i'd get them all! visit freescha/attacknine @ http://www.attacknine.com martin _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Freescha is a Sherman Oaks, California outfit which currently has two cds and two 12"s released all released on their own Attack 9 label. Their most recent cd, called Kids Fill The Floor, was just released a few weeks ago and features 13 tracks in the downtempo idm style similar to previous Freescha releases although this album doesnt grab me the way the first self-titled Freescha cd did. Visit http://www.attacknine.com for more info. On Monday, April 23, 2001, at 09:09 AM, Mxyzptlk wrote:

I'd just like to point out that drinking cough syrup for its dex content is unnecessary and pretty fucking lame. I say this because you can get it on-line, for fairly cheap. 15 grams of dex(usual dose is 300-750) for 30 - 45 bucks. Worth it too. Should mention music. hmm, the "new" Zammuto really has depth to it. Very easy to put it on and totally ignore it, but if you actually listen it can be amazing, not Wilscher, but good stuff, reminds me of Fennesz's Hotel Parrallel. Go buy Wilscher or VOMIT UP THE SOUL On Thu, 12 Jul 2001, dan robitaille wrote:

On the new Carpark "Wanna Buy A Craprak?" compilation, there's a really cool tune by Freescha? It's kind of 80s-ish house with some Plaid influences. What's the scoop on them? They have at least three full lengths out...my fave is the 1st with the snowflake on the cover (can't recall the title). The 2nd is "Kids Fill the Floor" and the 3rd is "Slower than Church Music". The 3rd didn't grab me as much as the 1st two, which (for lack of comparisons and because, well, it fits) are quite BoC-ish. jeff At 04:38 PM 2/21/2003, William Samuels wrote:
