Hi. I wanted to get folks feedback. Every few weeks I compile a list of stuff I've added to disquiet.com and audio-games.com web sites, and send out an email. Are folks cool with my adding the IDM list to the mailing? Or is that essentially a form of spam? hi all, happened to catch the fennesz/pita show in chicago last night at the empty bottle.... was curious as to what others thought of this show or any of the other dates of the tour... i thought it was really short. it seemed odd to travel so far overseas to play so little. i did like what i heard though, it was worth it, but i was expecting a little more. did markus schmickler play? i showed up around 10:30 or so and only 2 acts performed... matt +------------------------------------+ m.mercer :: systm audio-visual communicator http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/98/systm.html mmercer@kent.edu :: vletrmx@hotmail.com ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

you know, i hate to sound unimaginitive but really when i pay $10 for a "music" show i want some sort of dynamic variation, rhythm and/or melody for my brain to latch onto. i don't need 4 on the floor beats or happy major key stuff but four 20 minute sets of "watch me layer one gratingly digital layer of sound atop another and then filter it down to a rumble and bring it back up again" gets old after the first set. experimentation and textural exploration is fine, i have seen fantastic laptop based sets by Ryoji Ikeda, Kevin Drumm and Nobukazu Takemura in the past year and none of them were any less experimental than last night's show, but they were all about 100 times as interesting. just my .02c, i'm very interested in hearing opposing views josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Thu, 20 Jul 2000, M Mercer wrote:

I say, calling this spam is like calling the IDM list an intelligent forum for discourse about music...err.... That is to say, please send this stuff to IDM, Marc. For those of you who don't know (and probably didn't think to visit disquiet.com before judging), Marc runs a great resource. He is one of the few people consistently pushing this music and disquiet.com is an invaluable collection of articles, interviews and (my favorite) a bibliography of books about electronic music. In fact, it was Marc's article in Tower Records's magazine "Pulse" that helped turn me onto dub music 4 or 5 years ago (well, buying Macro Dub Infection helped too ;-). What I'm saying is, Marc, if you decide against sending this to IDM, please at least send it to me because I recognize the value in what you're offering. You poor sweet dear !!! How *did* you survive without dub before that? Me? I think it was UB40's Signing Off album that turned me into a rapid devotee of the genre. And LKJ. And Augustus Pablo, and all the wonderful Sly & Robbie collab's. Life would be less fun without the wide-reaching influence of dub **imo**.
