Wondering if anybody out there can drop some Atom Heart recommendations for me. I've liked all the Senor Coconut I heard, found the Lisa Carbon good enough, and sound samples from various recent Rather Interesting releases sound at times good and at times bizarre. Despite nearly eight years of techno fanatacism Atom Heart remains one of those producers I never really had the courage to just start buying. What are his best CD's? Anyone? I tried the datacide.org reviews, but those seemed more geared for the Atom Heart specialist rather than someone who just wants to know what's good. to presume that any of us know enough about you to tell you what is "good" is just silly. atom heart is all over the map, so it's up to you to tell us how you'd like to narrow your scope if you aren't going to stab at all of it. from the sounds of it, though, you like his more mainstream, pop-oriented structured stuff. senor coconut, lisa carbon, erik satin and maybe dandy jack are names you might like. you should probably get pop artificielle, since it's all cover versions and readily recognizable as Good Music (tm). -- http://www.synthesizer.org/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

As well as the excellent recommendations already given, you could consider getting one of the Real Intelligence Compilations, which is what I did when initially Atom-Curious. Here's some of my faves: Atom Heart: Shellglove Bass Dots Brown Mono TM and volumes 1,2,5 of the jet chamber series with Pete Namlook The first Senor Coconut is a must buy. Datacide "Flowerhead" with Tetsuo Innoue is really good to and probably the easiest on this list to find. Excellent Ambient stuff thats great to take a nap too. Its easy to get lost in the Atom Heart stuff as there is sooooo much of it. His output has slowed down a bit in the last couple of years. As someone else has said, Uwe IS all over the map indeed. For a decent smattering of what that entails, try and dig up Schnittstelle, Flextone, Orange, Morphogenetic Fields, B.A.S.S. and The Naturalist for starters (seeing as how you're familiar with his Carbon/Coconut stuff already). This certainly doesn't caver all of AH's bases (especially the earlier, hard stuff) nor does it deal with his Lassigue Bendthaus material at all, but it will give you some ideas. Good luck finding most of that list...I hate to recommend the hard-to-find stuff, but it is important as AH goes. jeff AeOtaku@aol.com wrote:

I prepared a top-ten-of-Uwe-Schmidt for the Swedish web zine Fat Bankroll ( http://fatbankroll.tsx.org ). Here it is, in short form: 1) Schnittstelle (1998) Electronic, interesting, complicated. 2) Flanger - Templates (1999) Live-sounding fragmented jazz. 3) MonoTM (1995) Twisted electro 4) Atomu Shinzo - Act (1993) Harsh breakbeats 5) Lassigue Bendthaus - Render (1994) Electro-pop 6) Se?or Coconut - El Baile Aleman (2000) Latin Kraftwerk covers. 6) Dropshadow Disease (1998) About bad desktop publishing. 7) Dos Tracks :) (1999) Glitchy, still with musical feeling. 8) LB - Pop Artificielle (1999) Covers of 80's hits. 9) Atom Heart - Live at sel i/s/c (1994) Atmospheres. One long track. 10) Naturalist (1998) One really stupid record. I just noticed that i have two #6 positions. That makes it a top eleven... Many of these albums would be quite impossible to get by now, but www.sisterray.co.uk might be worth a visit while searching. /P --- AeOtaku@aol.com wrote:
