Interetsing new concept album came on on Grand Royal records called "@ home with the groovebox" . The idea was to put an MC-505 in the hands of some of the better-known artists on their label (sean lennon, bis, cibo matto, and buffalo daughter) as well as the likes of some other well-known artist's such as air, john mcentire (of thrill jockey fame) beck, pavement, sonic youth, and money mark, and see what they would come up with. While the over-all result sounds like rock bands 'trying' to make electronic music, there are a few gems. Sean Lennon's track "Winged Elephants" is very nice, and the Air track "Planet Vega" stays true to their melodic sound. John McEntire's outting "J.I.H.A.D." sounds very much like a Tortoise track, and is very developed (if not well produced). Alll in all, it's a nice album that let's you see what some of these indie (and not so indie) rockers would do with machines....... ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i am partial to the jj perrey and sonic youth tracks actually (not together, though that would be nice :) the sonic youth one is PERFECTLY named "campfire" (or something very close to that) - as it sounds like a campfire. crackle crackle with insects in the background... the jj perrey piece is just so nice and so fitting for a compilation like this. i am, however, a bit unimpressed with the kingsley re-write of popcorn.. starts off promising but kinda fades into silliness in a less than thrilliness way. s'pose i have not given the rest of it a fair listen though. chris. but i think you will find a lot of these "rock" bands already use electronic equipment. bis, cibo matto, buffalo daughter, air, beck and money mark all use some form of keyboard/synth/sequencer/drum machine so it's not like it's an amazingly new concept to them. i haven't heard it though. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree, that would be very interesting.

yeah, on that note I'm also a fan of their 'perspectives' series, also 'ghosts' album breaks into that same vein.

yup

To be honest, I was never a big fan of that track to begin with.
