which album are you talking about? the "Brasilia" album came out around the same time as his release as Squaremeter. i have "Brasilia" and think it's quite good. it's a nice mix of the pop|click|crackle elements of IDM and microsound, and some harder, more distorted textures. i really like it. i haven't heard his Squaremeter material, but i've heard good things about it from friends and others who's opinions i trust. were you hoping for "Phoenix Metabolism Pt. 2"? i can see how his newer albums would be a "waste of money" if you were expecting more hardstep. - jo5_h beep boop muthafuckers http://braineater.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

his first 2 albums(low profile/twisted) were some of the greatest and most experimental drum and bass ever made...then he turned into making generic oriented crap(phoenix), or nonsense experimental(brasilia). He was great for a while, i think when he lost all the weight he lost his magical music producing powers. -brock ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dan - Robi" <robi@booyaka.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, June 06, 2000 11:20 AM Subject: [idm] panacea is crap

Did anyone other than myself enjoy Hanayo in Panacea? my opinion is pretty biased cuz i enjoy his mindless nonsensical noise, but i thought it was a nice change from TD and LPD... not even my $0.02.... -- Jeremy Axon open communications 34 ross street toronto t: 416.955.1393 f: 416.955.1398 on 6/6/00 10:45 AM, Brock Landers at illbilly@bellsouth.net wrote:

I thought the single "Tron" was really good, the next single was alright. I didn't like the Tron remix, the version on the lp nearly as much. I also wasn't that impressed with Low Profile. Everything else has been pretty much toss, among the crappiest thing to be labeled Drum n bass. That slower breakbeat project he did (the name escape me right now), was pretty awful. For some reason I think it was on the Pharma label. --- Brock Landers <illbilly@bellsouth.net> wrote:

the name of that project is Bad Street Boy. there's the CD on Pharma, which is really excellent if you don't take it too seriously. i think part of the problem some ppl have w/ Panacea is that there's an element of humor in his releases which goes right over their heads. there's also a self-titled Bad Street Boy 12" on Force Inc., which is a picture disc. unfortunately, at least in the case of the copy i've got, the pressing is crap.. and basically unplayable & unlistenable. - jo5_h beep boop muthafuckers http://braineater.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Maybe humor might be a reason to buy it? I know a friend of mine wanted to go see him dj to go laugh at him. But, I just don't find most of his work to be that innovative or interesting. I don't usually buy stuff just because it's hard or dark, there has to be something else...other than humor. Plus, there are so many other better releases to choose from. --- jo5_h <josh@braineater.net> wrote:

Yea, I saw him play a while back and it was absolutely hilarious. He looked tweaked out on meth because he's lost a few hundred pounds and he was jumping all over the stage like crazy... He was playing old semi-hard jungle (think Dubplate Pressure remix) but he bumped the turntables several times and had to restart the records. The best part was that he had what looked like a minidisc sampler that had a sample that said: "ARE YOU READY FOR PANACEA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A" (with the 'A' beind held with a sampler loop) that he played CONSTANTLY. It was definitely worth it. -- :: atomly :: atomly@atomly.com | atomly@atdot.org | atomly@cyrus.net http://www.atomly.com | http://www.mp3.com/atomly [CELL|(888)522.3830] | [CELL|(701)729.1631] | [HOME|(612)676.1817] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
