I just found a copy of a promotional disc containing 11 tracks by a certain Ponga. Lots of experimental and funky jazz-electronics on here as well as abstract drum and bass, ambience and very smooth breaks in (almost) every tune. The sticker on the front says that there are remixes by Amon Tobin, Spacetime Continuum, Capsule 150 and Fila Brazillia without mention of the original artist(s) involved. There's no front or back sleeve or an indication of the label either. If you have an idea of who/what this is, what label it's on, and a tracklisting, please let me know. Thanks! Ponga is Wayne Horvitz (Keys), Dave Palmer (Keys), Bobby Previte (Drums), and Skerik (sax, samples). The remix cd you are talking about and their self-titled first album are both on loosegroove records. If you like this stuff, you might wanna check out some Critters Buggin (Skerik's band). They have a similar sound even on their new album, "Amoeba", which is a big departure from the older stuff in that it is very ambient the whole way through. -Aaron On Sun, 19 Dec 1999, p i e t r o wrote:

That is a remix disc of the band Ponga. It's on loosegroove records (http://www.loosegroove.com). They are a jazz-improv ensemble in the same vein as Zony Mash, and some of Wayne Horvitz and Briggan Krauss's projects. The band is Wayne Horvitz, Bobby Previte, Dave Palmer, and Skerik. Really funky, and excellent work, the orignal is worth seeking out. My only problem with the remixes is that Bobby Previte's excellent drumming is too often hacked up. Here's the track listing: Ponga -Silencio Spacetime Continuum -Naugahide (Remix)* Capsule 150 -Pimba (Remix)* Even Schiller -Pimba (Fromunda Mix) Stereo Vacuum -Pick Up the Pieces of Saturn (Freakency Remix) Amon Tobin -Pick Up the Pieces of Saturn (Mosh Mix)* Element 115 -Hidden Propolsion Unit (Mix) Firing Bullits -Liberace in Space (Ponga Party Mix)* Filla Brazillia -Naugahide (Remix)* Master Cylinder -Naugahide (Remix) Ponga -Come As You Went Your promo didn't have a sticker with the track listing on front? Strange, mine did. Cheers, Nirav -- OnNow- Rafael Toral- Aeriola Frequency "The Church of the Absurd marches on!
