I love Yamo's stuff!!!!!!
I have two releases from Yamo - the Time Pie cd and the Musica
Obscura remix 12". Both releases were written and produced by
Wolfgang Flür (Ex-Kraftwerk member) & Mouse on Mars members
Andi Toma + Jan St Werner with vocals by Lowlife/Karaoke Kalk
artist Donna Regina. Add to that the fact that all the Yamo material
was recorded in MoM's St Martin Tonstudio and it will be no
suprise that Time Pie sounds a hell-of-alot like Iaora Tahiti-era
Mouse on Mars with male & female kraftwerk-style vocals over
the top. The MoM relationship goes even further - on the Time Pie
cd there is a previously unreleased remix of MoM's Stereomission
track (which appeared on Iaora Tahiti with Wolfgang Flur guesting
on drums) with vocals over the top. On "Time Pie" Stereomission
was renamed Stereomatic. Anyway the rest of 10 tracks on "Time
Pie" are equally as entertaining if you enjoy a toe-tapping quirky
teutonic vocal techno-pop sound.
Yamo's Musica Obscura remix 12" came out around the time
of the Time Pie cd and it contains more floor-friendly remixes
of Time Pie tracks by The Bionaut & S.Baltes.
Even though I've had these Yamo releases for almost two years
i still listen to them with great regularity.
Supposedly a new Yamo album, called Serenity Supreme, is
forthcoming but it's been promised since '97 shortly after Time
Pie and Musica Obscura came out.
If you want to hear some Yamo tracks for yourself there are
some RA samples on the CDNow.com website. Search for
Yamo under the artist category and click on "Time Pie" for
the RA files. Unfortunately they dont have RA for the best
track, Guiding Ray, but at least you'll get a good taste of
the Yamo sound from the other RA files.
