To my ears, it sounds like early 80's electronic ala Cabaret Voltaire circa Mix-Up mixed with the SKAM sound. Very lo-fi and gritty sounding. Its definately real but I've got to give it a couple more listens. it sucks ass except for one track. yah, most of it is lo-fi as shit. "Bionic Vagina" is the only thing that saved it (like a superhero). there are some clean beats in that one even if the voice samples are dirty. other than that there were some other funny voice samples throughout, but it still sucks. review: 1. Unriddled Allude - shit 2. Digital Toddler - shitty but had some funny samples 3. In Effect - this one is ok......ehhhhh, kinda. 4. Vesica Pisces - starts out w/ a rendition of "Do Your Balls Hang Low", then it begins to crap. 5. Bionic Vagina - this is cool; funny and catchy! nice one. 6. Inhale - errrrrrrrr, plop. ___________________________________________________________________ on a different note...the mini insert that comes w/ BoC - SKA008CD is so cute! just look at it. its so tiny, its like a baby. over// ?-???-? agreed, very gritty, has its moments. Would I be correct in stating that "bionic vagina" is the skam equivalent of a booty house track? I thought it was great at first, but the whole thing lacks any kind of a bass line. Some low frequencies would have worked great. RE: skam reviews-- I'm relatively new to the whole skam thing, but I believe I have most of the older skam releases on cdr (thanks sean!). I own the mbm/mellowtrons 12", gescom remixes, PBO rerelease, alder & elius, and the keynell and hiscores rereleases, and 0161. out of those I would say the PBO and hiscores are the best. However, rather than saying that quality has declined, I would say it is hit and miss. btw, if anyone is working on the best of IDM poll for '99, I would like to help out. For anyone who is interested, here is a playlist from last night's edition of temporary insanity (the last of this term): 1. Push Button Objects - "Twisted" (Skam) 2. Autechre - "Basscadet" [Incunabula] (Warp) 3. Alder & Elius - "Digital Toddler" [Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics] (Skam) 4. Boards of Canada - "Orange Romeda" [WAP100] (Warp) 5. DJ Krush - "Olde Scottish" (Mo' Wax) 6. Richard Devine - c-2 [Ischemic Folks] (Schematic) 7. Boards of Canada - "Olson version 3" [Peel Sessions] (Warp) 8. Ectomorph - "Cease to Exist" [Abstraction] (IT) 9. Stewart S. Walker - "Self-reference" [Jet Fuel & Longing] (Belief Systems) 10. Mike Inc - "Polka Trax 3" (Wunder remix) (Warp) 11. Galactic Intafase - "Infragating" (Reseift Thru I-F) 12. Gescom - "Keynell" (Skam)
