nya is actually a title to one of my songs (!?) in general though, i've been hoarding odd words for years (since i was prolly 14), long before i even knew what Autechre was. examples: fossa, epoch, infinitesimal, pleiades, etc.... conclusion: i've always been interested in words. how they look, how they sound, what their origins are, what feelings they invoke. so naturally when i write songs, electronic or on my guitar or thru poetry, i often don't title them with what seems to be an obvious title. i'll find a word that fits with it in one way or another, or just make something up. yes, i'm sure that Autechre's song titles have influenced my song titles in one way or another. but the title's to Deftones songs and e. e. cummings poems have as well, so what the hell? its an influence. i use everything i can..... now to the software stuff. i started writing electonic music with freeware progs. i still do. i think most people have nostalgia for things they learn with or start with, so i'm sure there are lots of you who have a nostalgia for hardware. there are goods and bads to both. i just got some hardware for the first time (a drum machine yesterday) and i like it because you can touch it. it's nowhere near as flexible as any of my software, but i enjoy using it. i do like the idea of combining the two though, as in the nord modular series. being able to create whatever the hell i want on my computer and transfer it to hardware and still be able to modify it to a degree is an ideal situation for live settings. it's gonna be funny when i do a live show for the first time and start with my drum machine, get everybody dancing, then hit them with some experimental electronic stuff off my computer. hehe........ oh yeah. and if anyone wants to hear a song on the ep of mine that just came out, i've got an mp3 of dicant up at http://www.idrive.com/ecux you can download. its only a little over a couple of megs, so go listen and tell me what you think. my novel for the night has been concluded :jason --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
