used to shop at bent crayon way back when i lived in ohio and recently decided to give their mail order a try. tried using the on-line shopping basket and got no response. tried sending an email with my order details and got no response. are they the kind of place (like Darla) that receives your email, fills your order, and ships the stuff without ever sending you back a confirmation? now i have no idea if the stuff is really on order. suppose i could just call, but... np: pet shop boys - nightlife (yep, you read it right). tasty string arrangements by craig armstrong and a funny duet with miss minogue. ---------------------------------------------- D is for Desond thrown out of a sleigh ---------------------------------------------- bruce levenstein bruceLev@mindspring.com ---------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Actually, it's been my experience that Bent Crayon just ignores potential business. I, too, sent an order and follow-up emails...no response to email, no records arrived, and (thankfully) no charge to my card. I buy between $50-200 in music a week and I've purchased music from a majority of online music shops at one time or another. I can honestly say that no other shop has been able to get me the music in the many different styles, labels and artists I follow with the consistency that Bent Crayon does. I'm sure everybody has their own favorites, I'm just voicing my support for mine. -->-Lance--- lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I ordered through Bent Crayon once (when I bought the Hrvatski "Oiseaux 96 - 98" release) and actually held a small email chat w/the guy who runs Bent Crayon. Maybe he's busy or something, but it's unusual that he hasn't emailed you almost immediately after you sent in your order -- like in my case. -Shawn.

Agreed, on both accounts! I have to add in on this...... I can imagine John is busy....in the past I have ordered from him... just try patience first, or give the email message some special name in BOLD and ALL CAPS.... Still, PJ is hella cool.....he actually allowed me to return something(and lets not make this a habit), but because he did, it definitely made the entire transaction more personable.......and prolly the next time I order on-line....it will be from him..... 308!!

Ive made this mistake of slaggin Bent Crayon on the list before I fully understood what was going on, but if you understand a few things about them life will be better. If you buy IDM online (prolly over 70% of us do) then this shop fits easily into the top five IDM sites. 1. Their shopping cart is a VIRTUAL shopping cart; that is its not hooked up to anything but it gives the user the EXPERIENCE of using an ACTUAL shopping cart. 2. Email them instead copy/pasting what you want, then it only takes a few days, maybe a week. 3. CALL THEM. That way you get someone on the phone (instant feeback), you know if its in stock and get the best idea when it will ship. Until they alleviate point 1 then theyll have to hassle with people going with point 2 & 3, but they dont seem to mind so go for it! my $.02 ernie Ernesto Ikerd, (817) 763-4795 Company Graphics, Dept 17, MZ-1156 Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems Fort Worth, Texas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

im sure there has been enough support already for john and bcrayon, but i have had zero problems in over two years of ordering every week, no exceptions. 1. give him your credit card #. (bad idea if you dont want to spend alot) 2. wake up saturday morning, check your email. 3. read the weekly mailing list. 4. copy and paste what you want. 5. wait for stuff. 6. get stuff, listen. biggest selection, best service. if you want your hand held, and tons of confirmations, go somewhere else. --- clietz@enteract.com On Thu, 04 Nov 1999 10:00:59 Ernesto Ikerd wrote:

Actually, I think that Kim's in St.Mark's has a better IDM selection as well as having better prices. They had a bunch of Hab cds for like $5! That being said, Other Music is still a great store... Ok, enough. This is getting excessive. I do not harbor any hate towards BC, and have no reason to. I just shared that I was ignored, but I wasn't out anything. There is no reason to attack them like this.

right. if you're interested solely in new releases of IDM & scattered related product, you could go a long time without ever having to talk to anyone one but PJ. And this would be a very good life, but...

completely wrong. John C stocks at least 20x as many titles each week as PJ. Not just IDM. Plus he runs an actual storefront. Plus he has more customers who have been dealing with him for years who buy music other than IDM. Plus he prepares those 100 page weekly updates himself every week, instead of the stripped down 5 pager PJ sends out. now i may be out of my element here, but as i remember it, you STILL owe john c a serious amount of money. so let's just say that yr stance is loaded. we'll leave it at that... you know i love ya g, but yr out of line... -Våt ____________________ Reckankreuzungsklankewerkzeuge PO BOX 382864. i've found their employees to be friendly AND helpful, in-store. like taking the time to find things that were misfiled, informing me that there was a cheaper copy of something in the used section, repeatedly telling me that the CD they were playing was chessie (hey, it sounded different every 5 minutes, ok?).

i've beaten it at aron's in LA, and i've heard that amoeba in SF kicks the high holy crap out of everything. but it is good. * does anyone notice that mr. e bears an _astonishing_ resemblance to gil gershman? right down to the rank, vicious denouncements (see the bit about john c of bent crayon above), ripping people off (on ebay at least) and general bitchiness? is it just a coincidence that this person bears such a resemblance to mr. gershman and has appeared since gil's hilarious fulmination and obnoxious exit from this list a while back? and that this is seemingly the only list on the net that his usual address doesn't appear on? personally, i don't care. but i do find it really, really pathetic and amusing. much like his reviews. and on that note... -b. -- radio: [ http://listen.to/treblequake ] the only solution. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

All reports I've heard seem to indicate that obsessive record collectors of all kinds had better bring somewhere in the range of four thousand dollars. I need to make a contact in San Fran who can buy stuff there for me. In a message dated 11/4/99 9:21:31 PM Eastern Standard Time, sheket@tiac.net writes (in an unexplicably defense fashion): << right. if you're interested solely in new releases of IDM & scattered related product, you could go a long time without ever having to talk to anyone one but PJ. And this would be a very good life, but... Zing! PJ is nothing but willing to get good stuff, he is very selective and only gets most of the best stuff, and he's by far the nicest and most rewarding guy to deal with. The original poster never claimed he was the only person to deal with, just that he offered great service (true) and was friendly (true). What is your problem with that? You're being nasty for no apparent reason. Strangely, much like the guy at Forced Exposure was when I asked him a couple of ordering questions. completely wrong. So he caters to a larger group. So what? I don't understand how you make a value judgement on that, and especially why you segway that into some derogatory comments. Let's compare it to local stores versus chain stores. PJ is like your local record dealer. He recommends things, has e-mail dialogues with you, and is genuinely friendly and appreciates/respects his customers. Yes, if I want to get the Super Collider CD or Argentinan compilations, he might not have it, and sometimes he doesn't get stuff in. John C. has stuff from all sorts of electronic genres (most of which just don't interest me, so I don't like slogging through a hundred page list with the same amount of stuff I want as s://kimo) but basically just gives you what the label says on a release, the price, and if you e-mail him, what's in stock and your order total. Never: "I can try to get that for you," or "you should check this record out." He may be cordial, but it's hard not to be in so few words. So in conclusion, they both have their merits and flaws. Surprise. To make this list-relevant, I think the best overall store in terms of stock hasn't been mentioned yet: Hedonizm. Every one of his new release lists he has all sorts of records first and he gets virtually everything hardcore IDM/intelligent techno types could want. Most of the time I want everything he lists, or close to it. Plus good commentary, great guy. A little pricey, but it's not his fault most IDM labels gouge the retailers.
